what went wrong with torrents?

you're like a hobo complaining about your free food
>>
>>85711438
1080p is just the resolution, it can look and sound like absolute shit and still be "1080".
You have to look at bitrate.
Nowadays I don't even look at the video specs anymore, just audio. Audio is the first thing crappy encoders cut on because normies don't care about the atrocious 96kbps digitally distorted uncomprehensible audio, but they sure do love to complain on facebook "CANT HEAR DIALOGUE BUT LOUD EXPLOSIONZ HEHE WHAT GIVES"
That's the main thing why YIFY is trash, even the "1080p" versions had dogshit audio, you listened to better quality audio in 2008 when you downloaded dodgy bootleg versions of songs on fucking Limewire.

So please start downloading decent atleast 6GB+ encodes and look at the specs beforehand.
>>
>>85712162
>atleast 6GB+
but then how will they all fit on my HDD?

I am a hoarder

Audio bitrate has nothing to do with the audio's dynamic range.
96kbps (assuming it's mp3) is enough for films, because it's mostly just voice.

>>
>>85713179
It does indirectly. When the bitrate is low (like 96kbps is) that means a lot of artefacts and digital distortions are in the waveform and the quiet voice in film becomes even more uncomprehensible so you turn the volume up to hear what the fuck are they talking and then you suddenly get blasted with a brickwall of digital distortion whenever something loud happens.
If you watch a film with high audio bitrate, you can understand what they are saying just fine even on low volumes and loud sounds like explosions are untouched by the horrible bitrate compression so you can listen to it with ease.

That has nothing to do with the dynamic range being affected by the bitrate.

What about soundtrack? What about sound design? Foley? Or do those exist only in "capeshit"?

1. Uninstall all codec packs, previous instances of the aforementioned, and the like, and delete their settings if prompted.
2. Reboot.
3. Install MPC-HC with default settings.
4. Install XySubFilter.
5. Extract "madVR.zip" into a new "madVR" directory in your "C:\Program Files (x86)" directory.
6. Right-click on the "madVR" directory, click on "Properties", go to the "Security" tab, click on "Edit", click on "Add…",

8. Start MPC-HC, go to "View" -> "Options…" -> "Playback" -> "Output", and select XySubFilter as Subtitle Renderer.
9. Go to "View" -> "Options..." -> "Playback" -> "Output" and select "madVR" under "DirectShow Video".
10. Go to "View" -> "Options..." -> "Internal Filters", click on "Video decoder", and select "None" in the
"Hardware Decoder to use" dropdown menu in the "Hardware Acceleration" section. Click on "OK".
11. Play a video file, go to "Play" -> "Filters", click on "madVR", and click on "Edit Settings".
12. Go to "processing" -> "artifact removal" and check "reduce banding artifacts".
13. Go to "scaling algorithms" and select "Spline", or "Jinc" if you have a fast graphics card, and "activate anti-ringing filter"
in the chroma and image upscaling submenus.
14. Go to "rendering" -> "general settings" and check "use a separate device for presentation".
15. Click on "OK", click on "OK", restart MPC-HC, and start watching.

XySubFilter might have a different home base now, don't get tricked into getting a different thing like Xy-VSfilter or VSfilter or any pleb shit. The only upscaling happening is my dick.

Using anything other than MPC-HC with MadVR as renderer and XySubFilter as subtitle renderer is AIDS.

If you have a real stereo / 5.1 / 7.1 receiver and speakers and subwoofer and shit, bitstreaming audio through S/PDIF fiber optic or even 75-ohm / RCA is massive. 1s and 0s decoded by the audio chips themselves, not the computer. The opposite of audio sounding quiet. Audio must be precise and perfect just like video.

>>85719735
Can you adjust sub size via hotkey with XySubFilter? That's what is stopping me from moving to MPC-HC from SMPlayer.

There are about 5000 different hotkey configurations, many of which are for subtitles. Also one can set up subtitles to display at whatever font / relative size one wishes to begin with, and alter these with the hotkeys I imagine.

>>85719894
Usually the point of XySubFilter is to render .ASS subtitles accurately. If you're just running text-based .SUB subtitles or something then pick a default style and size and they'll scale with fullscreen or whatever.

In real life:
>You listen to 96kbps audio? that's kind of strange...
> HEY! no need to be so rude about it!

On 4chan:
>you think 96kbps is acceptable? consider fucking killing yourself!
God I hate the outside world

There's a hotkey that brings you to it if you need an easy way to change this thing that shouldn't need changing once you set it up

Also you can apparently set up new hotkeys, haven't looked into it much

unironically sounds like my setup
DTS source pass through fiber to yamaha RX-V795a with onkyo fronts, polk; center, rear, sub.

Nothing wrong with it, atleast not for normal people who actually go out and do things other than complain about bitrates and codecs to people who just want to watch some telly.

>>85716369
>I'm not going to give you names of others
See, this is the kind of guy that does nothing with his life but complain about bitrates and codecs online. He has a superiority complex because he "knew H265 before it went mainstream" or some shit.
>hurr durr can you believe this dickhead anon doesn't know the names of atleast 4 dozen codec packs???? HURHRHRURHRURHUHRUHRUHRUHRHRHRUHR

Did you bi-amp the fronts? Bi-amped stereo speakers > 4 rear speakers instead of 2

All you need are the LAV filters that come with MPC-HC by default, rendered with MadVR >>85719390

Codecs are nonsense

It doesn't matter how simple or not it might be, I was just getting at the guy's shite attitude. He assumes everyone just knows everything about stuff most people don't care about. To 99% of people a movie is fine so long as it's 720p or higher and doesn't "get them blotchy square things".

my fronts are 50 watt 2 ways, 1980s vintage, one set of inputs.
other than that it's a standard 5.1
