I'm sure they're going to go somewhere with the whole "loser" bit... But why? And why the constant nylism this season and continually shoving this "the universe is random, nothing really matters" narrative down our throats?

I have the same problem with this episode as I did with the premier. There's nothing clever about these episodes; things just happen. And the tone of both of the episodes are all over the place.

The first two seasons felt much more organic. Things seemed to have more purpose, and even the LOL Random episodes didn't feel like they were trying as hard. This is just... So mediocre. Nothing new, nothing creative, just a show that feels like it's constantly trying to remind you that it has heart and is deep.

Summer being the badass isn't the problem. She expressed a desire to go on adventures with Rick as early as Season 1. The problem with this episode is that they used the effort in a pitiful attempt to deliver a moral.

Still, the Premiere was a 8/10 and this was wholly average at best. If it continues to be at this level the writing staff needs to be purged.

Pretty great episode actually. Laughed quite a few times. Robot Morty and Summer were great, liked the bit with Jerry and the wolf at the end too. that is the problem, they try instead of just doing it, the problem with shows that get popular is the creators, they want to "give" something to the audience when in fact nobody wants anything, just relax and make up stories, don't try to be better than what you are, let the show flow by itself

the main reason this episode sucked ass was because they tried to stuff three storylines into one episode. Summer growing up, morty doing whatever who knows what the point of that shit was, and beth doing nothing.

It could have been a decent episode if they picked one and made the other a background story. It didn't even feel like summer fell in love with the dude, just banged him and decided to run away and marry him for some reason. Didn't really make sense, the whole episode just felt out of place with the characters motivations.

Morty bonding with some ghost arm was weak as well especially the random excesse murdering he was enjoying. Did the writers forget he already experienced a murder spree and felt guilty about it? The entire thing was just shoddy tool to tell the joke of the arm not killing the dude and making rick help him. Morty didnt seem to learn anything so you have to wonder what was the point of it besides adding some pointless violence. Also why did the arm remove the rock thingy he wasn't even part of them so why did he give a shit.

Rick was being the voice of reason for some reason which the writers tried to write off but did a shit job. The only time he started to come into character is when he stayed and then stole the rock at the end. Regardless his actions didn't really help the story.

Don't even know what the point of the beth scenes were

It's sad because the episode did have the tools to be funny while delivering character development but the writers just failed completely

Nihilism was never the point of this show. The show is just a stupid zany spring board for Roiland to be autistic with. The characters are what they are and they'll change as necessary for funny plots.
It's a low brow comedy. Only the most deeply retarded people see depth. To any one else the depth just looks like the subtle trimmings that it is. Some sprinkles on top when, and only when, it would be funny or climactic to do so.
