Don't get me wrong I watched the shit out of 2, and got the novelization from the schoolastic flyer. That being said its dumb as shit, and super shredder commits suicide for literally no reason without any help or motive, moments after being created. That's a terrible fucking conclusion.
Meanwhile the original TMNT is actually a pretty solid movie and it plays it's premise straight. No one is using salami nunchucks. It's also pretty grimy and grounded.
The first one is a good general audience movie, the second is a fun kids movie, three is lolwut, and you just kind of ignore most of everything else.
There was a cartoon series that had a movie where the turtles get stranded in a parallel universe or something and can only get home by skipping into other dimensions, and each one is a different era of the turtles. Like the old 90s cartoon turtles show up and they make fun of them for being so goofy and lame, and then run unto the black and white original comics and are spooked at how edgy they are. It was a fun meta story kind of thing. The CGI TMNT isn't bad either.
While I didn't exactly like the new movies, I don't hate them either.
But yeah, the original movie is legitimateld breddy gud. It's worth a rewatch.

I met a friend after work to see this when it came out. We didn't like it, but I remember being highly amused by Mako's performance of Splinter. We thought he sounded drunk, and we couldn't stop laughing at the notion of a highly-intoxicated Splinter doing a half-assed job of training the turtles.

If I claimed that Kino is Shredder's illegitimate son, that would be a theory. It would be also be stupid and irrelevant because there's nothing in the movie that supports this. My interpretation of the movie being about the Turtles as celebrities is based on stuff like Shredder creating Tokka and Rahzar, who are clearly physically stronger than the turtles but ultimately failures because the finale of the movie turns into a popularity contest where the turtles perform breakdance moves and impress the people at the nightclub. Tokka and Rahzar only manage to look clumsy and repulsive and are rejected by the crowd. Shredder is even blasted off a literal stage by music being played really loud.

They use a lot of tricks in movies and advertisement because real food doesn't hold up well when it's sitting out for 18 hours under hot ass stage lamps while they film the dinner scene (ice cream is usually mashed potatoes, turkey is usually raw and spray painted golden brown, etc). It's a big reason why they never actually eat anything in those scenes, the food is not real.

This is so true. It's not a masterpiece or great movie by any means, but it was seemingly made for young adults. It has strong themes about nurturing and parents. Spliter being a father figure, April losing her fathers shop, the foot giving kids what they want. It really showed that how and who teaches someone is important.

The 2nd one is fun for its goofiness, but it doesn't have a strong core story like that.
