Well, the thing never needed to breath. It could hide human and alien traits very easily and understood how to mess with people's emotions. Its so fucking obvious its Childs. He leaves the building before the final fight and exits from the door closest to the basement stairs/entrance where Blairthing later ambushes the last guys. He's stumbling out the door as he goes like half assimilated Bennings was.

And even before they sit down he creeps up on MacReady but not in a way that suggests he thinks MacReady is the thing because he doesn't have his flamethrower aimed at him. He's literally just trying to get as close to him as possible while his back is turned but he gets caught out and freezes. Then he doesn't shut the fuck about still trying to "make it". Asking MacReady calmly what do we do now biomass? Is there another vehicle we can take?
