Although not too sure if most people in here would consider them spy movies.

The BBC adaptations of Tinker, Tailor... and Smiley's People are both great, if a little hard to follow at times.

That both date to a era when dramas produced by the Beeb were more sedately-paced, did not insult the intelligence of viewers, and were not slathered with superfluous music at every opportunity.

The cast is superb, Alec Guinness and Beryl Reid in particular.

The recruit had the potential of being a sÿ movie, but turned shit action flick.

After the first two movies James Bond turned in to some action drama shit, no spy/tradecraft in any way.

Also recommending Three Days of the Condor. The main character is vulnerable and has to use his wits to survive. So many "spy" movies let characters shoot their way out of any situation.
