Although 80's action kino is both better and more consistently good, a lot of 90's movies took the already exaggerated cliches from the 80's, removed the camp element and exaggerated them further into self-parody.

Good, but a bit different. The writing is weaker, but they streamlined the formula more. Even the 4th is OK.

Conspiracy Theory 1997
Its a good thriller and mel gibson of course plays a good crazy person, only bad part is that Julia Roberts is the love interest, how can anyone love a mare ;_;

There a bit watered down as you get further, but the writing mostly stays the same with rigs and rogers banter being one of the main forces. But all the squeals have a cultural theme to them with what ever was a big civil issue in that time.

Matrix is so good but it really did ruin everything, didn't it? It was such a game-changer. It feels like every action movie made afterwards was skinny girls in latex doing backflips and shooting with two guns in slow-motion.
