I could see Dickon going against his Father's wishes and helping Sam. He didn't appear to like his Father's mocking Sam. Even in the books it seemed like the brothers had general love towards each other.

Maybe Dickon goes to retrieve their Father's sword from Sam and Sam convinces him to go fight for Jon. It'd be a real waste of such a good actor to not have him in a more important role, especially fight scenes.
