If all you want out of it is a cool Star Wars-y space battle that feels like Return of the Jedi, then it's worth the price of admission. Had Disney kept making films like Rogue One, that is pushing star wars to a darker thematic area, and not being only about jedi/sith would have made everyone happy.

I liked Rogue One because it wasn't a typical star wars film, it had grit and wasn't afraid to be grim, but it still "felt" like SW, like you were in the same universe. TFA on the other hand has no soul, it was basically a remake with some boring new cast, and OT cameos.

I will say the nailed the setting and aesthetic of the star wars universe. Everything has that gritty lived-in feel. I though the costumes and makeup all looked great, and it managed to scratch my space-battle itch thats been unsatisfied since Jedi.
Not to say there wasn't a lot of stupid shit and really confusing creative decisions in it. The script could have also developed the characters just a little bit more, Jyn especially. I'm genuinely curious if some of the script and character issues weren't because of the reshoots and studio. Then again the director has made a career of boring bland as fuck empty vessels to center his movies on.

Lucas is famously one of the luckiest men in the world. To get the movie made he gave up his rights to any money from the movies to retain sole licensing rights for the brand. The studios were probably laughing in his face when they agreed. Turns out the franchise is a merchandising titan. They have always been about selling toys and T shirts first.
What makes the OT good is that it had a lot of creative input and constructive conflict among people who knew their shit. A lot of what made han solo so memorable was harrison ford telling george he was a retard, he got the character.
And george has proved he doesn't get it with the fucking special editions and him trying to erase the theatrical editions from history.
So yeah. They're bad movies driven by hurt feelings and greed.
Not that it exhonerates disney in any way.
