She was an "okay" actress early on but around S4 she decided to play Dany extremely stoic and monotone for some reason.
Now she just comes off as bored and unexcited in every scene shes in and all her emotions need to be written into the script because its impossible to read her feels from her face since it never changes.
I mean look at this shit, this is the face she makes when shes about to land on Dragonstone. After all the years shes about to take her first steps onto Westeros since she was an infant and THIS is the reaction we get?
Also as others have said it doesn't help that she has now been surrouned by the likes of Conleth Hill, Peter Dinklage and Alfie Allen who are some of the best actors in the show.

It might be the script but the scene tries to portray her as a strong queen who won't take shit from nobody, but she comes off as arrogant, paranoid and crazy (perhaps that's what the scene actually did try to convey but I doubt the screenwriters are that clever). Still read it. Beyond the more obvious plot points that the show depicts there is so much going on in terms of history and world building that's not even touched upon in the show.

Starting from book 2 the show also departs from the book in a major way. Arya is stuck in the Riverlands for ages and witnesses horrors of war beyond end, it's no wonder she toughens up so much.

Also Tyrion in King's Landing is a much more gray character than in the series, which makes him a lot more interesting and I can't fucking believe that they cut out the back story with his wife, that was his main driving force in the end. Fuck you D&D.

Beginning from book 3 & 4 it's like you're reading an entirely different book entirely. They cut out entire characters and plot lines or dumbed them down beyond belief. Among them are some of the coolest in the entire series.

Also, the major thing of the book are the character perspectives of the characters you get and the way they constantly think back to their past life as well as prophecies and dreams. Almost all of that is cut out from the show.

Making characters is what acting is all about. People used talk about actors flexibility, where they could play various different characters well, and this then got watered out and now everybody does different roles without the ability to do so.

Look at Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges or Sean Connery (just random actors). Then look at their roles, they are mostly the same, if not identical. That is what acting used to be.

Male actors are, however, usually able to convey emotions and be somewhat credible. Female actors are usually just hired because they look good, and are then lauded as good actors even though they are shit.

Apparently, in the first few seasons, actors had more say in actions and motives for their characters, which DnD usually took, molded, and made work in the sense of the pre-established story.

Now that they're going on their own work, DnD have cracked down on that. So many actors will ask "why am I doing this? It doesn't make sense for me," DnD will just tell them to say the fucking lines and get on with it.

It's actually really sad. And, while this sounds fucking pretentious, as an actor it sounds awful to work with. A shit script can be saved, but if the directors are also fucking miserable to work with, it's a doomed project.
