One of the movies in The Gods Must Be Crazy series has scene where a leopard or cheetah jumps out of the grass, and it looks laughably fake. That might have been the point, though, considering it's a comedy movie.

>I wonder if monkeys feel this way about the Planet of the Apes series.
Don't talk shit 'bout monkino

But yeah, even speaking in sign language, there are some moments when the CGI fails. (Mostly when the color twilight orange is present. This is most noticable in Rise). Still, ape CGI looks absolutely fantastic for the most part in Dawn and War. Surprisingly enough, when you do see an ape speaking, you don't get that feeling of ''uncannism'', mostly because their voices are absolute top notch

Because let's be honest, is Caesar more menacing when you look at him, or when you speak at him?

God I fucking love Gun-Fu.

The Pole scene from The Matrix Reloaded, which many people seem to hate (yes it is cartoony, I don't care), is still my favorite scene in all of cinema, foll9wed by the Robot Fight scene in Sucker Punch and the End Swings in Spider-Man 1 & 2.

Why?

Because I fucking love to see the camera dance an elegant path through a scene.

Pan shots? Yawn. Track shots? Meh. Still closeup? Booooooriiiiiing.

Camera flying all around the goddamn room, slowing and speeding time at will? Instant. Boner.

They were pretty quiet, but still would've been easily audible for anyone standing within a couple of metres. Plus all the walls and shit being shot up. It was a pretty funny moment when watching the movie, though, plus it tells the audience a little about the characters. Both John Wick movies are really more about style and creativity than realism, really, so I don't think it's bad that something so silly happened.

Half of my problems from BvS and Man of Steel come from that Abrams-esque camera. They put soooo many effects in those films, but you can't enjoy them because everything is a shaking blur.

The other half is that they crammed an entire backlog of introduction movies into one movie just for the sake of catching up to Marvel so the namesake of the film has no weight and no payoff. It's like watching any of the Frankenstein vs Dracula movies. WHERE'S THE BIG FIGHT I PAID TO SEE???

I had to watch this thing after seeing these scenes, but the villain backstory scene near the beginning made the movie for me, me and my friends were in tears laughing at it. It comes out of nowhere without any context.

>>
>>85597833
That doesn't explain the fucking confusing directorial and editorial decisions made. Like digitally compositing two different edits together in the same scene so Django Feet's gunbelt glitches out in the middle of a scene, or anakin's hair and head start morphing.
There are a lot of great miniature sets, but the compositing is so fucking lazy in most of them it ends up looking like bad CG most of the time.
People like to shit on phantom menace but at least it had sets and locations, good miniatures and practical effects, and shot mostly on film. Aside from thr gungans most of it holds up well enough
Attack of the clones and revenge just look and feel so much more sterile and boring to me. Sure they have some neat stuff in them but I'd rather just watch clips of those specific parts on youtube because the context is so fucking dumb there's no point in it.
Except Sheev. He's such a ham and steals the show every time hes on screen.

this is literally nitpicking. faces are probably the most complicated thing to animate. they clearly put a lot of work into and actually cared how it looks. yeah it look odd, but thats because the technology is still imperfect but this is clearly as good as it gets.

>>
>>85593640
>when you do see an ape speaking, you don't get that feeling of ''uncannism'', mostly because their voices are absolute top notch
They're also nonhuman faces. The brain is a lot more forgiving when it comes to that.
CGI tarkin for instance is objectively great CGI and if the whole movie was animated with mocap it would have been impressive. But CGI puppetface standing in the middle of a bunch of real humans stands out.
I mean compare that to Gollum, he's a weird fantasy creature thats vaguely human, but just off enough the uncanny valley doesn't apply.

"Extended sequence" means a series of scenes that follow eachother.
The chateau fight or highway chase in the matrix movie takes place over multiple scenes and edits. If you wanted to refer to it as a collective thing you would call it an extended action sequence.

the joke of the scene is that new yorkers are so uncaring and rude that they'd just ignore a gunfight happening around them. the directors got the idea after they were in NY and got in an accident and no passersby helped them out.

Not that its much better, why not just take tarkin and leia from ANH and just use some digital fuckery to make the face match the dialogue? Like they did with michael douglas in ant man. It still looks weird and you can see the seams, but it never made my skin crawl like they did.
I can only assume disney R&D is actually trying to see if they can get rid of actors entirely. Or use their likenesses for eternity.

It appeals to everyone. Even nofunallowed butthurt /pol/wannabe larpers can't bitch about it because the racism is hilarious and harmless. And SJWs can't get mad because the little bushman, m'[click][click]ummfu[click], is the protagonist.
And just a good comedy premise, solid set of gags that build up into total mindfuckingly goofy climax.
Go watch this movie all you faggots. It's funny.

Do you count action scenes like those in The Raid 1 and 2 in this? Or the hallway fight scene in Daredevil? The ones you've mentioned are like hyperkinetic versions of the ones I like, but I don't think they're very good very often because they often don't allow the viewer to interpret the action and character movement. Sucker Punch's one especially, basically just followed a bullet for three seconds then had a random character appear and fire another, you couldn't tell what the trio of girls were even doing. The Matrix one, bad CGI aside, is okay though

Because they take the lowest bidder and then crank shit out of sweatshops.
As far as faces go, humans are complex social creatures that have an elaborate nonvocal communication. It's part of the reason our faces are so much more expressive than most other animals. Your brain is keyed into that at a primal level, so when you see a fake face that looks (nearly) photorealistic but lacks many of the super important and incredibly subtle ticks that a human is supposed to have. It triggers a response in the brain because holy shit this is some kind of weird alien trying to pass as human and my lizard brain knows its time for pitch forks and torches to fight the pod people menace.

>>
>>85606001
You don't notice the good, properly used CGI.
Fury Road is full of it - they remove tire tracks, crew rigs, cables and stunt mats with CGI. Likewise, you'll probably never notice that George Lucas spliced some scenes in the PT together from multiple takes - there's one where the Maori guy that plays the stormtroopers takes a seat in a cockpit with three others also sitting down and talking, and his actions are taken from a separate take from the other three actors.

It's just that directors these days use CGI not just to cover their tracks and fix up stuff in post, but to create entire scenes and characters, which often doesn't work for one reason or another (like the actors having to talk to a tennis ball or having unrealistic physical interactions with them, or just purely that the CGI isn't good enough to emulate reality)
