28??? This is an amazing masterpiece I can't understand why someone wopuldn't like this! As a fan of Twin Peaks I never wanted to see this as I read the reviews. But when I saw it I was completely stunned and overwhelmed by this masterpiece. Fantastic Lynch atmosphere--great scenes with a lot of depth. The David Bowie scene is fantastic and Badalamenti's score adds a lot again to the whole of this.

This film is so deep that is leaves the shallow minded all but drowning in its wake. Lynch fans all over call this the worst ever and not just amongst his films but of all cinema (I really cannot figure why even from those whom have given me a superficial reason to call it trash). People looking for an obvious sum will be lost...this is pure art in the highest of forms...it finally takes us to the real underbelly of all the evidence that was exhibited in the series. This is Laura Palmer's story were the series was Cooper's perception of a town where yellow traffic lights mean slow down and not speed up. My advice is just have no expectations. As with any other Lynch film, it's good to view with an open mind and let it just wash over you like a wave of chaos and beauty.

I almost didn't watch this movie because of all the horrible things I heard about it. It was a great movie and really answered some lingering questions I had. Sheryl Lee and Ray Wise both give spine tingling performances. The tension in some of the scenes was palpable. I guess Lynch was just way ahead of his time because it is a masterpiece.

Critics try to review works objectively, and FWWM got a lot of wonky elements, so going by objective standards it gets pretty iffy. Most viewers are "dumb" and like things or not simply based on if they liked the thing as a whole. If anything, it shows that despite being unconventional, the film somehow worked, and that's a good thing. Of course, the professional critics in pic related expressed their opinion in the early 90's, and these viewers did so 15 years later, so in that time some other things might have changed too.

Anon, pls. This is just deliberate misinterpretation and misconstruing. Laura being a conceptual underpinning and motivation for most plot action doesn't make her the protagonist. That word has a definition, and it involves being an agent of structural progression. All the central diegetic plot-forward action of the relates to Cooper investigating something.

Not only is this a gross exaggeration, saying "if anyone's the protagonist, it's DEFINITELY not Cooper" seems really ridiculous to me, largely for the reason I just described. You're right. I love all things TP including and especially FWWM, but in and of itself it isn't a very good movie, and even with foreknowledge of the TV show it just isn't that good in any real way besides giving you clues and bits and pieces.

Well, giving obsessive autists clues and bits and pieces that, to date 25+ years later, actually still make no real sense, that doesn't make it a masterpiece of a film.

I fucking love FWWM and wouldn't change a thing, but I'm not going to pretend like Lynch "had everything figured out" or "there was a reason for everything", when there clearly wasn't. Half of what this board likes about FWWM, we just like that stuff because they became memes and are funny that way.

To be sure, there are individual scenes, moments and shots are FWWM that in and of themselves ARE great by any measure. But they're relatively isolated moments.

I wouldn't have it any other way, because this is how the TP mythos was formed. I couldn't imagine FWWM being more of a cohesive whole. It seems like a flawed hodgepodge, and I like it that way. But is a flawed hodgepodge. It isn't much more cohesive than if Missing Pieces as a standalone feature presentation in its own right.
