Short and sweet and the focal point is character development. I'm not a huge fan of blatantly overchoreographed dances that last way too long. Sure, it's the movies, but it makes me feel like I'm just watching a music video. Especially when there is nothing going on with the actual people fighting.

Overchoreographed as in it looks choreographed. A proper fight shouldn't look like actors waving plastic wands, but that's what it absolutely looks like in Phantom Menace. It doesn't help that Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul are nobodies, but their fight looks too polished.

That's fine, they're telepathic or have prescience. So all that does is completely undermine the OT, for the sake of what? These shit characters who are fighting for no reason worth caring about?
It's a garbage fight for more reasons than the characters are acting stupid. People always laugh at Anakin getting his arm chopped off in Attack of the Clones, but the same type of awkward bullshit editing happens in this fight too when Obi Wan is kicked off the ledge and when Qui Gon dies.
The context, setting, characters, and editing are complete shit for a fight sequence that requires you to shut off your brain to watch.
