If they were making Episode 7 for the fans, as in "fan service", why didn't they make something more exciting? Something that shows the old heroes in a positive light, rather than being a "resistance" that even the "new republic" doesn't like? Something that shows they are alive and well and happy for their accomplishments in the old trilogy because they deserve to be.
