Are there any good DVD/Blu-ray sets? Which are the best films? Are there any that should be avoided?

I bet you could get a complete collection for 50 bucks. If you're only interested in watching James Bond movies because they look fun/cool, I would just watch the Craig movies. They are the most well made, well directed films in the series.
You could also watch the Connery movies, but they haven't aged well. This goes for all the Bond movies, even the more recent ones like Goldeneye, so watch out.

It's not a laughing matter, The Spy Who Loved Me is one of the best Bond films.

Try on amazon, there's probably the older boxset that doesn't have skyfall and the more the recent one that does to choose from. Spectre hasn't been put in a box set yet.
I love all the Bonds in some way but some are arguably awful but there's a good sense of camp and fun.
If you want to see the more serious stuff Sean Connery's first two and Craig's first three and all of Dalton's play it fairly straight.

forgot to mention Lazenby's is highly underrated and plays it very straight too.
