The first Spider-Man was made prior to the September 11th attacks. In fact, one early commercial for the movie featured Spider-Man catching a helicopter full of bank robbers with a web between the two towers.

At least in the Raimi movies I assume he could use the spider sense to sense a plane was flying dangerously low. And if he didn't stop the first at least he could have stopped the second one I assume, since it happened 15 minutes or so after the first.
