I mean, I am watching that episode of Season 8 where he forgives Zach and decides to teavh him the ways of serial killer and try to save him from doom, LIKE HE DID AND FAILED WITH COLIN HANKS' CHARACTER! AND LUMEN 2.0! OH, AND WITH LUMEN EVEN!

Does he even learn?

Not defending dexter as high art or anything, but it's hardly the bottom of the barrel for this medium.

Reminds me of that thing they were doing during the first season, but then kinda aborted, where part of his psychopathy is that he doesn't pick up on social cues / sarcasm. There were a couple throwaway lines in the pilot especially ("So we're looking for a sushi chef?" "Hmm... maybe.") where they push the awkward angle a lot more. And then later they kinda backpedaled on it and made him more relatable.
