>>
>>85540954
Honestly, Scorpion King wasn't bad, it is just very dated and was too 'obvious', you look at other films at this time and the CGI is about the same, but they used certain angles and lighting effects to make it less obvious. One that comes immediately to mind is Fellowship of the Ring, which came out the same year as the Mummy Returns

Believe it or not anon, the extreme close-up shots of the demon thing are practical. You can tell, the textures are too real for the CG at the time.

The CG in Warcraft is a mixed bag.
The Orcs themselves were 10/10 and in some
of the earlier scenes the humans actually do blend quite well with them.
But the closer it gets to the end, the worse the humans blend with the CG. It's clear that the budget began to dry up near the end.

Regardless of what you think of the movies overall quality, the reboot of Planet of the Apes movies are really boundary pushing CGI wise.

Good way to put it actually. It's one of the few CGI effects that feels of has a weight on the world.

To explain that, I mean that it feels like there's an actual character there, not just an effect. Not quite sure how they achieved that, but it's pretty fucking cool.
>>
>>85549242
They achieved it by having actual fucking actors doing all the acting and just CGing over them. Every shot of Caesar is actually Andy Serkis doing it.

>>85549290
>They achieved it by having actual fucking actors doing all the acting and just CGing over them
Good point.

And I guess that monkeys (or apes I guess) are pretty close to humans as is. So they can map those actor movements almost one to one, and make them look even more realistic.

okay fucktard, then how would you explain the sudden change in the second film when he's doing shit that's impossible otherwise.

also, fuck this practical effects meme. almost everyone that spouts it is a dumb mong.
yes, cg can be shit. yes, latex animatronics can be shit. yes, stop motion can be shit. matte painting can be shit. green screen can be shit. rear projection can be shit.all this focus on "mug practical effects, muh cg" makes me think these tards don't actually care about what's onscreen, they care about the story behind it, so they can die in a fucking fire.
>>
>>85550982
If you were watching on cable broadcast in standard def on a tube TV it probably looked ok.
>>
>>85551002
very funny, thanks for that. I'm guessing if they took the time to maybe find an actor that fit the description of snoke, maybe a decrepid looking guy with a fucked up looking face, they could use make up and prosthetics to make it look good and believable.

>how would you explain the sudden change in the second film when he's doing shit that's impossible otherwise
I don't know, I'm not a film maker, but I guess they would use body doubles, various angles, the good ole concept of RESTRAINT, and editing techniques to make a believable scene that doesn't break the immersion for the scene.

your second paragraph is funny too. Practical effects have an edge because even when they look like shit, they have the advantage of looking real. You're right tho, look at Iron man 2 at the birthday party scene. They clearly had RDJ in a plastic iron man suit and it looked like shit. The director, or CG director, or whoever is responsible should always use the most effective tool in their toolbox ya drunkass triggered fucktard

This is where you're mistaken. Walking Dead only had a massive budget in the first season, it's been steadily tappering off since then, and around 3 seasons in thing started to show through the worsening budget. They explore less in show and stick to familiar locations, lots of episodes are done in singular back lot sets, far less effects shot.

All culminating in that masterpiece of a scene.

Frankly, you've just been exposed to so much of it you're jaded - you have a practiced eye and can spot it a mile away.

If you went back in time twenty or thirty years, and showed even Avatar to someone, they'd have no idea it wasn't real (or at least in some way practically made). Just remember that those old black and white claymation monsters used to actually scare people.

Albeit, if you've ever seen anyone playing a modern sports game at a distance, I bet it'd take you awhile to figure out if you were watching a game or a sports broadcast, unless a tell tale cursor or target select gave it away.

Borderlands wasn't a racing game (well, most of the time.) They started that game with a realistic-as-possible framework under the Unreal engine, but quickly opted for a stylized "comic drawn over" look to set it apart.

In the end, it is actually quite often more work to make something look stylized than realistic, depending on the route you take - which is certainly the case with Borderlands, where they are continuously taking photorealistic objects and textures and cartooning them up. (Not that the results or the game itself is always great.)

And the point of that webm is to demonstrate an instance where the video game actually looks "more real" than the real thing.

...Which I suppose just goes to show how bad the effect fail.

I really think the main difference is that of some artists who are in love with their work vs. the work of a bunch of people who are just there for a quick buck.

Which is true of a lot of things in a lot of movies - sometimes, quality is something you can't just by.

(On the other hand Planet of the Apes also has the advantage that their source material isn't fast, flashy, and explosive.)
>>
>>85556400

It's their job as filmmakers to do what they can so the CGI doesn't look obvious or outdated. Other films from the time that look better didn't get lucky with lighting or angles. They did it deliberately. It's all part of the care one puts into the creation process and obviously in the case of The Scorpion King the extra effort was not considered and executed.

I think the animations are to blame for things looking bad. Too floaty and shit but AI might make this easier. We can specify starting and ending frames and AI can help with the minor movements inbetween.

AI is already being used to mimic human tone and inflection and it does an incredible job

Blizzard ingame cinematics take shitton of time to make,it wouldnt be realistic to expect whole movie from it.
Didnt you see Rugrats pilot animation quality when compared to the show for instance?

Its overly animated,if you want to see some really overdone stuff go see The Thief and the Cobbler Recobbled.

Anyone has this full scene from Wolverine?

Oh I've seen the cobbler before, nothing unnerving about it. Maybe it's that the rugrats one has jerky moments that throw me off, whereas the cobbler stuff is smooth? I'm not sure, honestly.

That was kinda the point... CoD and its ilk are trying to look as photorealistic as possible - but after awhile, everything looks the same. So folks have started making stylized shit to set themselves apart.

CGI is fine, cinematography is bland.

I think I tried designing that in a game once.

Not really, it's more like it doesn't reproduce different aspects of cinematography, but it can perfectly reproduce what your eyes see.

The worst part about this is that she moves her whip before he throws the shit at her implying that she either has the ability to see into the future or that the other guy has incredibly slow reflexes or purposely aiming at the whip

Seems like a forced scene to demonstrate how skilled she is but it just does the opposite
