the town is low-key influenced by the creature to avoid looking too deep into it, such as when it chases Beverly in the form of her dad throughout the town in broad daylight, but people offer no aid and just go about their business, even though she's a kid screaming for help being chased by a grown adult

the creature literally refers to the town of Derry at one point as "its feeding pen" and that it feels no urge to move on/leave town as it had no trouble getting its meals easy peasy everytime it woke up and then going back to sleep
