I recently read the book and I would like to keep my expectations low. I'm excited to see some R-rated content and monsters that the TV miniseries left out. Still, that miniseries from the 90s wasn't that good but still left me traumatized for a few weeks.

With the Dark Tower and other King adaptations being profitable, they (the studio execs) should have waited a few more years before making a 10-episode miniseries to really build the characters and story. There are enough scary moments in the book that could serve as highlights in an episode.

It's a shame, it looks really beautifully shot, but that clown design is just fucking ridiculous. It tanks the entire movie.

I'm not even nostalgiafagging about it needing to look like Tim Curry. But the logic of the story is that It takes forms through the eyes of children. Why would it look like a victorian ladyboy doll? From a horror perspective distorting the mundane makes the TV version scary despite very low budget.

They could have done so much more with a toned down normal-ish design that they then make look sickly and wrong with effects. Open he mouth too wide, make the eyes sink into the sockets or the head expand, or make it progressively uglier and lovecraftian.

Instead they took inspiration from shitty low budget horror from modern times.

As he does, the massive object - no longer quite so massive - pulls out of him, but Sam can feel wetness all over his bottom. He is afraid to put his hands back there. He is afraid that when they come back he will discover he has become Little Red Bleeding Sam. The Library Cop suddenly grasps Sam's arm and pulls him around to face him. His face is redder than ever, flushed in puffy, hectic bands like warpaint across his cheeks and forehead. Look at you! the Library Cop says. His face pulls together in a knot of contempt and disgust. Look at you with your panth down and your little dingle out! You liked it, didn't you? YOU LIKED It! Sam cannot reply. He can only weep. This new Pennywise has to be the scariest movie monster we've seen in years. Literally years. There's two scenes in this movie that absolutely sent shivers down my spine. First when Pennywise possesses the slideshow and we finally get to see his very creepy and mental face in the final scene. What a build-up! I nearly pissed myself.

The other one is in the basement, first we see the excellent performance by Georgie's actor. You'll float too never has sounded more epically scary. And then Pennywise rises from the waters. I jumped in my chair and still do when watching this. I can tell I will be on the edge of my seat in theatres this september.
