You'll have that and more with Dawn, the visuals are more pleasing to the eye, the battles are more detailed and on a larger scale

It doesn't have Michael Cain which is a minus but Peter O'toole is in it. It's surpasses Zulu in almost every way it's just the outcome of the movie, it's what upsets certain people of 4chan. It keeps them from ever mentioning it

Well edited and well shot with some of the most immersive exposition by background extras I've ever seen on a war film (I've seen plenty, just look at my list >>85515249 ) especially the terror. The framing was perfect in the first half and even more nuanced in the second half with the vivid set design. Every shot was a baroque painting without any cheap romanticization. Mel's attention to detail is better than anyone else working today. You should watch more film so you can get a better understanding.

>not understanding the character's fears

Did you not see all the times he'd almost killed his brother or father out of rage? It wasn't about a fear of hell or a refusal to kill "because it's bad", it was about his fear of himself and how easy he could bring himself to do it. Normal people don't nearly brain their little brother in a childhood scrap, or nearly shoot their father in the head because they're tired of their drunkenness. Those people are capable of going to war and coming back a more-or-less normal man, because they don't have that monster in them to begin with. But he knew that he couldn't do that, he's a dam that will be broken forever if he starts killing. Yet he was still conflicted because he wanted to help and so he found a way that would let him help without breaking the dam.

Why is /tv/ such a pleb board?

Anway, best films about WWI are All Quiet on the Western Front and Westfront 1918 - Vier Kameraden.

I'm reading a book currently on War films during WWI and it's highly interesting to see how Germany struggled to set up a film industry and counter US propaganda efforts towards the end of the war. Germans mainly made pro-German documentaries but felt they were above putting out "Hetzfilme" (smear campaign films) so they failed to make an effort abroad.

In the US it's also interesting to see how they went from Neutral war films that have an happy end to preparedness-films that teach you to always be alert to pure Anti-German films. It was pretty hard to make films when half of your audience were Irish and Germans who were cheering in support of the Kaiser.

>>85523195
But he's not. It's not like he fucking forced the Sarge to start shooting japs, now is it? He was ready to just drag him out of there without returning any fire. The Sarge made his own decision to shoot, just as Doss allows all the other soldiers to make their own decisions as to whether they're okay with picking up a rifle or not. He's never shown to pass any judgement on any of the other soldiers, only on himself.

I sincerely hope that you're just pretending to be dense for shitposting purposes and that you really aren't this incapable of grasping simple things shown in a warflick.

Trying to recall a film I remember to be amazing.

I just remember some key points:
-Jap is fighting for the Americans
-At one point he infilrates place and sabotages it from the inside while yanks attack
-Random jap soldier charges a yank and beheads him
-Maybe a scene of some dude with a flamethrower getting shot and his pack goes full roman candle on him it might have been a different war film

Not at all accurate. They lost a battle in a war they won entirely within five months due to a pair of incompetent commanders. It's pretty much mandatory viewing for >>>/pol/.

Windtalkers? He was Native American not Jap but I remember him saying "Y'know I do look like a gook"

>He knows killing is wrong
But he doesn't think that, you dense fucker. If he did he'd be protesting the war, not join it. HE can't kill because it'd turn him into a monster, but he never judges other soldiers because he obviously thinks that there are situations where killing is okay, and as long as those people are capable of doing it without it ruining them then it's fine. Your hint to this was the fact that he never once judged any of his fellow soldiers during the movie nor did he act like he was better than any of them, on the contrary he saw HIMSELF as unworthy.

He's an alcoholic who doesn't judge others for having a beer in the evening but knows that if HE has a beer in the evening then he won't be able to stop at one. And so he chooses to catch the drunks when they fall instead of either joining or preaching at them.

>hurr durr the guy who risked his life and went back again and again to save more and more wounded soldiers was selfish!!!

Just neck yourself, retard.

My absolute favorite.

No I don't think it is. I'd certainly remember Nick Cage being in it.

The film was very serious as well.
Having said that I'm still going to watch it because I like war films but I'm going to laugh at Cage trying to be a serious actor.

The Aubrey-Maturin series is one of my top ten novel-series. I'm still hoping they'll return to it some day, showing off Maturin's side of things a bit more. Hopefully in a big-budget tv-series instead of a single movie.

No people see Zulu because its a better movie, a stronger script, better pacing and actors who arent being boring.
Zulu Dawn feels more like one of those very expensive documentaries.

And as you said, Zulu has Michael Caine

And that goddamn soundtrack.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvpnNa1nFWI

And this scene, goddamn, Zulu Dawn has nothing on it.

I had the same opinion as the guy you knew as a teenager and therefore like my 2-3 first viewings. But even then the second half kept bringing a stronger impression to the table with every viewing. By now I am convinced the second half is far superior, it's amazing how well the two halves of this movie work to filter.
