why is this movie almost universally hated?

>good job providing a neo-noir feel
>interesting pulpy sci-fi story
>classic hero + sidekick vs. antagonist trope
>convincingly threatening villains
>solid visual effects for 2004
>good set and costume design
>adequate cinematography and direction

I'll admit that Gwyneth Paltrow could've done a better job acting and that there are cheesy bits of dialogue but that can be attributed to the different manner of speaking in the 40s setting

Is this really so terrible?
Can nothing be salvaged here?
Why does /tv/ despise Jude Law's Sky Captain?

god I love this movie

I don't. I've always thought it was a solid 7/10 action film. It has it's flaws, and a few major plot holes, but is thoroughly enjoyable.

Hell, I think I even own it on DVD, and rewatch it fairly frequently (once ever year or so).

It's fine. Forgettable but competent, good but flawed.

Who hates it? It's such a fantastic movie

>literally no one hates it
>Ebert gave it like 4 stars
Fuck off.

They used to play this on television all the time and I watched it a bunch of times. Seemed like an okay movie but I have no idea if it's supposed to be based on a comic or something or it was just an original concept.

I just saw it got piss poor reviews on RT.
>>
It's slow, it has a weak wrap up, and it's derivative.
>>
like a lot of movies that people think are rly shit (like cutthroat island), I enjoyed it because it had character and its own style, like the man from UNCLE. I thought it did some cool stuff too like the plane diving underwater just weird stuff
>>
It was one of my favorite movies as a kid

It's dieselpunk kino, the plebeians wouldn't understand it even if they liked it.
