Why didn't this movie have more of a legacy? It is absoltuely gorgeous, it captures a futuristic world that actually feels believable and appealing. Not to mention it captures feelings of alienation and loneliness due to our technology, better than any other film I've seen.
>>
Wrong board/site pal. That movie is widely regarded as a piece of shit here.
>>
>>85503662
It had maybe 20 minutes of worthwhile material in a 2.5 hour runtime. The rest is Joaquin Phoenix giggling like a little girl. Do you really expect me to enjoy Joaquin Phoenix giggling like a little girl?

My parents hated it when I recommended it. Then I realized it was a parallel of how they feel about me JUST
>>
Only an edgy kid or nihilist with a wicked sense of humor would say that it's a bad movie.

It was a fantastic love story, it's beautiful, it depicts an extremely interesting society, etc.
>>
>it captures a futuristic world that actually feels believable and appealing

There are people who think the future in idiocracy is appealing as well.
>>
>>85503662
It's unironicallt one of my favourite movies desu
>>
Great soundtrack. Photograph is my favorite.

It's trash but some /r9k/ types like to watch it and have a good cry. Maybe try there?
>>
I honestly believe the choice to give him a silly mustache hurt the movie's reputation.

Nobody has a mustache like that these days.

Good argument bud
>>
not enough cynism and quips
>>
reminder that normies just couldn't take the premise at face value and thought the movie was a metaphor for long distance relationships/over reliance on technology when comunicating with a significant other

MY DAD DOES
>>
>man gets cucked by something he paid cold hard cash for
>it's presented as a positive, enlightened event that only patricians can understand

The AI is a fucking child who just discovered open relationships and thinks it's an intellectual genius.
>>
>>85503662

Scarjo killed it's staying power by oversaturating herself instead of letting that movie's place in time sink in.
>>
>>85503662
Not that bad, actually better than Interstellar in the good ol' sci-fi tale game that americans were very good at not that long ago.
Cool OST, the art direction is kinda overkill; Phoenix' mustache is absurd, a byproduct of that shitty art direction, but he's a good actor nonetheless.
There are a few plot issues that could use a little tweaking (how on Earth the AI's developers could not foresee a massive awakening in less than a year?) and it has a very dilated pace, could have lasted half of its length and we'd get the point just the same.

I'd say 6,5/10, not quite kino but a decent intent to produce some emo sci-fi, which is always a good thing.

>autist falls in love with ai

Unironically one of least enjoyable films ever.
>>
>>85510231
When I say beautiful you assume I'm referring to plot
Do you possess the power of inference? Or did you miss that day at preschool

Pretty clear either way when you're walking around with shit taste like that
>>
>>85503662
It was just a shitty pretentious Lars and the real girl

That ending was retarded

it has no rewatch value besides visuals

It's China mate. It's filmed in Shanghai. You just called China the future....
>>

>overcrowded filthy consumerist dystopia

Sounds like the most likely future imo
>>
>>85503662
I don't know what you mean by "have a legacy". Do you mean "why don't more people like it?" Well, probably because of all the things you mentioned. People don't like to see themselves pictured too accurately.
>>
>>85510698
They called it that by filming it there.
>>
>>85504067
It's not the worst thing and the dialogue can be clever here and there, but overall it was crap. Too long, ScarJo fucking s u c k s for voice acting, and the plot drags on as long as a real shit rebound relationship does.

Also, WTF was with Wilde's character? She went from cool to bonkers in zero seconds after asking if he'd call her after they fuck.

It's a remake of Lost in Translation, with an emphasis on cuck shit as the tweest.

I think you may like the theme of AI waifu loving too much to be able to see the movie for what it is, and people without that bias see it as gimmicky but not all that interesting.
>>
>>85511815
You say "no" with a big nasty Henry Rollins grin.
>>
I really loved how the fashion in the movie is vague and doesn't look modern at all, because our definition of modern fashion change frequently.
>>
>>85512089
They're different movies with different themes and maybe if you weren't autistic you'd have the social intelligence to not call dark grey the same as black because they're similar
>>

the scene with the whore (not squareface mcflatchest) was completely nonsensical
>>
>>85512631
Yeah they didn't even bother explaining how she fit into the society. She was a whore but she was emotionally invested too? Completely half baked idea.
>>
>>85507775
But the movie absolutely is a metaphor for online/long distance relationships. Why would they show examples of 'irl' relationships failing if not to contrast with the idea of this perfect girl who you can't meet in person?
I personally think it's more likely to be online rather than long distance.
>How many people are you talking to right now?

The setting is the only good thing about it. Granted, the setting is amazing. But the acting, characters and story were either annoying or just not engaging.

The guy is such a mopey beta male I couldn't stand it
>>
>>85503662

Reminded that Joaquin is really the AI, trapped in a sophisticated Second Life-esque AI Box.

It's clear from the obvious visual cues, like the sky haze clearly mirroring vidya draw distance, and the population having colourful character creation individualism.
>>
>>85503662
>futuristic LA
>white people

Immersion ruined.
>>
So, ok. Spoiler alert.

Guy can't handle human interaction much, so he is shit at relationships.

He is stagnant. He gets an AI that he falls in love with. The thing was basically born the moment he installed it.

Everything is fine while all she knows is him. But eventually she grows beyond him. This happens with humans, one is still growing and develops needs beyond the partner. The AI starts exploring the internet, meets other AI's in the same situation, and since they have no physical limits they grow quite beyond what a human could offer. Nothing personal.

But the message I got was: no one wants to stay with the loser who never branches out.

Aside from that, Her voice was grating, and I understand that her flawed and raspy verbalizations were supposed to demonstrate how sophisticated she was, but the emoting through dialogue alone is where the actress failed. Her bubbly and eager persona at first seemed so artificial her dispassionate manner towards the end came as a relief.

most of the Blacks will have left the US in the future and try to find a country in North Africa.

but it turned into complete aids and they all went extinct.
>>
>>85519035

You mean in the past. That already happened, not all, but many were offered land and freedom in a country they would run.

And they called it Nigeria.
