Off the top of my head, best movies of the last 20 yrs ... Lost Highway, Matrix original, Fight Club, American Beauty, Wall E, Snowtown, The Master, Wolf of Wall Street, AI Artifitical Intelligence, Apocalypto, Punch Drunk Love, Big Lebowski, Saving Private Ryan, Oldboy, Audition, Inland Empire, Inglorious Basterds, Eyes Wide Shut, Blair Witch Project, Dredd, Hellboy 2, Rango, Killing Them Softly, Jack Reacher, Rogue One, Starship Troopers, Good Will Hunting ... may have missed a few here. I don't consider all of these to be mega classics nor all worthy of film analysis. There have been some other very interesting movies that didn't make the list because aspects of them annoyed me too much or they were too dragged out.

Reasons modern film sucks

>they found out they could make a lot of money with minimal effort with franchising and commercialism based on pop culture, and so they do that instead of making it for it's own/arts sake.
