What films noir have we been watching lately /tv/?
Planning to watch the Criterion of Ride the Pink Horse tonight. Didn't like Montgomery's adaptation of Lady in the Lake but this one seems less gimmicky.
Dead Reckoning.
Bogey being Bogey and Lizabeth Scott was a babe. Very underrated flick.

Lizbeth Scott is legendary. Love her in Too Late for Tears (a top five noir for me) and Pitfall too.
Remember Dead Reckoning ending very nicely, but can't remember much of the first and second act. A big fire, right?
The Big Clock

That's a hell of a picture!
Recently saw Leave Her to Heaven, it was really solid, great performances, nice set pieces, but overall I didn't love it that much. It felt like more of a drama than noir, but then again she was quite a spider-woman.
I also re-watched Rififi for the first time in a few years. That one really stands out to me as both a noir and a heist film. The elements of each genre are so unique and memorable.
Watched pic related recently. I loved it.

been watching a lot of British noir lately, Carol Reed movies, Tread Softly Stranger, that kind of stuff.
also saw a Dutch movie called Morlang recently, which is a sort of neo noir. i really liked it. not many people have seen it.

ah yes, the only noir film on shitflix.

Is there anything else on the level of pic related? I've enjoyed most of the noir films I've seen, but nothing has come close to toppling this as the best of the bunch.

What did you like about it?
>>85491223
The fact that it avoided the melodrama the genre often falls prey to, the dialogue, the self-awareness of genre tropes, pretty much everything about the storytelling is great in this.

try Army of Shadows
is there anything comparable to point blank? with quasi surreal type editing and minimal explanation of what's going on
These threads make me realize what a terrible memory I have for this genre. I can barely tell what I've seen and what I haven't, even after reading the plot summary. Ya, a lot of them are same-y 40/50s crime dramas, but I usually have a good memory for movies.

I'm not really sure there is much that aligns with your criteria >>85491291, but the only other films that reach The Third Man's heights are Touch of Evil and The Maltese Falcon.

Kiss Me Deadly

Moonlight
what noir films have the most intense uses of lighting/shadow?
really looking for something that has very sharp contrast between light and dark
