Why do people pretend Linklater is good?

I seen Dazed and Confused before Slacker. I loved it. But Slacker is so bad. Half of the segments in that movie are cringe-worthy. It is comedically unfunny in some parts and dialogues were so try hard.

Any Texan opinions about this movie?
