They got the one bit of scenery I was hoping would be in the movie absolutely P E R F E C T: The Stacks themselves. It's not a hard concept (literally just a trailer park but vertical) but I'm glad they stuck with that.

The rest, it looks about as much like the book as one could reasonably expect it to look. A little gray and shadowy for my tastes, but I'm okay with it if they manage a simple little adventure story like the book had.

I really hope Spielberg pulls a Verhoeven/Starship Troopers and sneakily changes the message from "dude nerd nostalgia is great lmao" to "umm guys maybe mindless escapism and unability to face the present by seeking false comfort in the past isn't very healthy" but the screenplay being written by the same author worries me, the pages posted are literally fucking reddit and display the very worst aspects of nerd culture. I find it baffling that the trailer has a line that goes "your imagination is the limit" yet the character's VR world is nothing but pop culture cameos, it's prime satire material.
