Why did he fly into enemy territory, getting himself captured thus making him useless for the whole rest of the war instead of parachuting out while he was flying over the beach?
BRAVO NOLAN

>The requirement set by the United States Parachute Association says that the main parachute for a D-License holder be deployed at 2000 feet above the ground. This gives enough time for the diver to fix any malfunctions. Most main parachutes take 600 to 1200 feet of free fall to open. The reserve parachute can open in less than 400 feet. The reserve absolute minimum would be around 700 feet to land without injury.
Is this a big meme?

Not enough lift to turn around while he was gliding, too low to parachute

and why didn't he try to turn around and land in the water or on friendly territory? he seemed to be able to turn pretty damn well to shoot down that fucking german plane after running out of fuel
getting captured was part of his plan

So Nolan could banepost

They were surrounded on all sides. If he had followed the coast he would have landed in enemy territory no matter what. If he had flown out to sea he would have gone who knows how far and possibly not have been rescued.

When a plane runs out of fuel, like his did, it becomes a giant glider. It's a lot harder to maneuver it at that point. A water landing in a Spitfire wasn't always safe. So both those factors would lead a not so good landing possibly. Hitting water at high speeds is like hitting concrete.
tl;dr water landings sometimes killed pilots
NOLAN IS A HACK
these threads are useless. It wasn't realistic, but if it was, the movie wouldn't be the same.
I liked this movie up until this happened, really ruined the whole movie for me.
