I just wish they had a better idea of when to go serious and when not to. I thought some of their sketches were hilarious and others were pretty somber and thoughtful as well, I just didn't think they belonged to be I'm the same episodes. I would've liked it if they focused solely on the comedy (maybe then they'd be good enough at it that the sketches that missed wouldn't feel so forced and awkward) and gotten a show a year or two down the line where they could exclusively make serious stuff.

MDE has always had an outsider, if not straight-up reject, perspective. WP rejects the status quo and criticizes the """utopia""" liberals have been shaping through media, social and otherwise. There was a shit ton of social commentary in the show, and a lot of it goes against what we're "supposed to think" and the "values" that we've been "taught". Some of it was going against little no-no's like Sam using blackface and going balls-to-the-wall by sticking nickels in his nose; some of it was more ambitious like the wall sketch, Charls' stint in prison, and the very final sketch with the kids.
I don't think it's right-wing, but idiots need labels so they can stir drama and false-flag without too much effort.

It's and interesting lecture but it doesn't seem amped up enough for me to read it that way. There are other sketches like the Jews Rock with the cut to the producers or the one with "We All Can Be Victims" where the tone is absurdly over the top and it's easily readable as rage against hamfisting themes and messages but this one, I don't know, it's just kind of dull for me.

This thread got me to rewatch World Peace.
Lots of good moments in there I didn't remember. They nailed the aesthetic they were going for. I wonder how it'll stand the test of time, maybe it will be a cult classic after all.

I'm sure they'll try, but there's a huge chunk of it that's directorial too. I can see that more clearly now that the shock of seeing the jokes for the first time has passed. The whole thing feels like a dream, with weird choppy cuts, blurry closeups, askew angles, lines heard out of sync, and the colors of course, always moving, sometimes neon sometimes pastel, and the music choices like that Chastity Belt outro to the first episode, all filmed in the dark at weird angles with green and red lights. The show's actually more impressive and accomplished than I'd given it credit for.
