How did Aragorn become king and not Faramir?

aragorn was descendant from the royal line and faramir was descendant from the stewart line

Faramir was the son of old grumpy man.

Old grumpy man has no connection to the royal line, he is basically just a janitor type doing the job because they can't find the real king

Aragorn is connected to the actual royal line, blue blood flows through his veins and he is the rightful king.

The stewards of Gondor have "no authority to deny the return of the king", to quote Gandalf, so even if he didn't assume his father's mantle, Aragon reclaiming his throne was never anything Faramir would have had any say in.

Faramir didn't even want to be king anyway. The first thing he did upon waking up after Aragorn healed him was to declare Aragorn the rightful king.
