The rights to most of the songs used expired, and the film doesn't make sense without them. Sheryl Crowe's Soak Up the Sun can't easily be replaced with a generic pop jingle when it relates to pic related Colonel Congo's cafeteria massacre on the UNSC Columbine, for example (specifically, the moment he cocks his antique colt .45 pistol as the word "got my 45 on so I can rock on" fade just before the relevant scene)
Plus it came out the same day that the Columbine Shootings happened, which probably didn't help.
