Lynch had him reject her while he was still pretty strongly involved. it seems like it came down to chemistry and suspense more than the actual possibility of them doing anything untoward. and that's classic L Y N C H shit. it's the creation of a stylized, idealized "possibility" of romance that would collapse upon concrete realization. throwing that away (and the interesting color it lent Coop's interactions with Audrey, since he clearly reciprocated) was a moment at which the show lost some depth, I think.

Binge shows are disposable entertainment. This show is not disposable, it's meant to be an experience. There would be zero point to it if it weren't serialized. No discussion, no speculation, no appreciation for the individual episodes. It would all blend together for you idiots. The little moments and subtleties would not be dissected. You don't want what this show is offering, you want instant gratification.

Ironically if they had released it all at once people like you would be complaining it's too long and too dense. You want the most interesting event series in television history be the same garbage that's already out there.

I love The Return so much but it at times can be so hard to watch. There is so little joy or love left in the world of the show. Although the original series was filled with darkness and horrible cruelty, there was always the redemption of the moments of genuine love between characters. In the Return it doesn't seem as though anyone is in a healthy relationship, everyone seems alone or lonely and bitter, and there is so much petty arguing between people. It looks like a very sad and alienating world.

Nope, it's easy to say because it's a much better show I think. The original is still real good but the level of quality on display in the new season is just outrageous. Had Lynch directed every episode of the old series maybe but it's mostly his skill that makes the show good.
