Everyone I know who went to watch this movie said it was crap.

Nolan INTENTIONALLY avoided giving the characters backstory. The film is about the dread and chaos of war, he didn't want to bog things down with boring exposition.

This is Nolan's best kiddo.

/tv has always been contrarian.
year after year, shit movie after another it is a proven fact.

Thank god we got an actual war movie telling a story of persistence and national spirit rather than another action-movie-set-during-a-war-complete-with-muh-wife-back-home shlock

If you wanted to watch some guys get shot in the head go watch John Wick

It isn't about the plot, it is about the general struggle and experience that come from a historical event. There is no "plot" because we inevitably know the outcome of said event.
