Building physical sets to stand on and interact it only go so far. Paying well over a dozen VFX studios from around the world to do all the designing and then babysitting the computer during rendering.

Besides, they have had to reserve production schedules not only of actors, but all the set staff (include catering. My god catering takes up so much money) for 9 months, plus locking them in for all the promotional shit they'll be doing between now and release of Avengers 4.

Man the one thing Marvel really needs to do in this is add apocalyptic imagery - not just a few blocks of a city, but a huge amount of destruction. DC blew it's load on the destruction porn too early, and Marvel hasn't gone anywhere near it, and I'm disappointed in both for such a failure. Justice League would have looked way better if everything hadn't already been rubble and fire in the end of BvS, and Marvel's destruction is always so low key it's hard to imagine anyone actually dying - the New York skyline hardly changed during Avengers, for example.

Fair enough.
