The General regenerating was blatant Moffat shitty writing because the whole thing happened just so Moffat could write another "oh you men, how do you cope with being so stupid" line.
The Doctor regenerating is different because now we get a chance to explore this concept of a female looking Doctor and how that changes the format. It also really helps that Chibnall's writing 13 and not Moffat. I'd bet you anything that if a female Doctor was announced and we knew Moffat would still be showrunner for her era, we'd all be up in arms, and rightly so.

Well for starters series 5 was a very solid series to me. It has some truly amazing episodes and the few bad ones aren't even that bad.

Series 6 was far from perfect and the story-line was really quite awful but when you look at the individual episodes it's a really strong series with some amazing eps: Christmas Carol, Impossible Astronaut/DotM, Doctor's Wife, Rebel Flesh/Almost People, Girl Who Waited, God Complex.

Series 7 wasn't that good but it wasn't that bad either all in all and there were a couple episodes I quite enjoyed like Hide and Town Called Mercy. And then obviously Night/Day of the Doctor.

Then series 8 which I greatly enjoyed, really liked Deep Breath, and I'm also one of the few who found Robot of Sherwood incredibly fun and Kill the Moon really quite good. I loved Listen, Time Heist and Mummy on the Orient Express. The finale was lacking somewhat but it wasn't awful.

Series 9 was a very strong series, with the first four episodes being really good, the Zygon episodes I didn't really like but they gave us some amazing performances from Capaldi, and then obviously Heaven Sent, which was surrounded by two episodes I liked overall, although not necessarily perfect (strip the last 10 minutes of Hell Bent and you've got yourself a really good finale imo).

And series 10, while pretty mediocre for the most of it, wasn't really that bad or unenjoyable, save maybe for the 'mum ex machina' mid-series. It would have been a rather forgettable series had it not been for those last two episodes, which were probably the best and strongest final story we've ever had since the show came back.

Fine, pretty much. I like to post controversial, contrarian opinions that reduce episodes to black-and-white GOAT or SHITTEST because every other retard in this general does.

That being said, while Heaven Sent creates a powerful metaphor for the devastating impact of grief, the actual story and set-up is just so much baggage getting in the way of that fairly simple theme. The one-hander doesn't work, because Moffat has next to nothing interesting to reveal about the Doctor through his confessions, and because the usual glib prattling he spouts while he flails around is not particularly witty or compelling. The clever-clever twist makes no sense, but it's almost worth it for the speech about eternity, which really evokes the cosmic horror of infinity and isolation.

It's ultimately far too flawed to be considered a genuine masterpiece, though the ideas are so strong that it may be a classic.

Would you like the Weeping Angels to return during Chibnall's reign? Do you think there's still something interesting to explore with those aliens under a writer that isn't Moffat?

I quite like the Weeping Angels as a villain, both their design and their gimmick. But Moffat sorta dropped the ball with them as time went on. Blink and Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone were great (though I wasn't keen on the whole "if you pretend you can see them they won't move" thing and didn't like to see them actually move which defeats their purpose). Angels Take Manhattan was a bit naff though. The Angels keeping a tower block full of humans as some kind of energy/food reserve was interesting, but the Statue of Liberty stuff was just a bit too much. And after that they just appeared as unnecessary cameos.
Maybe a different writer could write an interesting story featuring them?
