Soundtrack was one of my favorite parts of the film. People here like to shit on Zimmer, and it really did sound like Zimmer. But at the end when everything went silent and I sighed a breath I didn't know I was holding, I realized that this is probably going to be one of the best soundtracks of the year. It's not the best music to listen to in the car, but it paired with the movie perfectly.

I also didn't notice any abundance of BWOOOOOMs, so that's good.
>>
>>85405487
His death itself is not what matters, Rylance's son saying he's alright to the shellshocked soldier is what matters. A lesson in stoicism.

>>
>>85405624
Not him. But the blonde son undergoes a transformation during the film - from an overly emotive, reactionary kid to a stoicism, down-to-business man. He rebukes Cilian Murphy initially, but when the other soldiers join the boat, he sees that stoicism and steadfastness are actually what is needed to get everyone through this.

Much like Britain as a whole had to do in 1940.

Maybe I'm a fucking pleb. but I thought it was an absolute masterclass and I had no troubles keeping up with it.

well talking big releases

I could list B movie tier productions like stalingrad 2013 but that was aids, russians can't make good war films anymore

>/tv/ dislikes it
What makes you think this? I have been in a few Dunkirk threads since seeing it Saturday and the general consensus seems pretty positive.

how is Letters FROM Iwo Jima an American film?
>>
>>85410926
You have to be aware that /tv/ only consists of 100 posters as opposed to like 100,000s who saw the movie who probably liked it.

So what I'm saying is don't take everything in 4chan seriously.

Caine is 80. He wouldn't fit in a war film unless he was playing someone's greatgrandpa.

It's definately an American film. Not about Americans, though.

Star Wars isn't about Americans either, still an American film.

Possibly, he didn't have much at all for lines though, not like that matters in Hollywood though. I also thought Mark Ruffalo should have won over him for Spotlight but that's just my personal taste famalam.

I let out a audible "god damn it" in the theater when Hardy got whisked away by the Nazis.

After ALL that he just ends up getting captured by the Nazis.

>Is Inception a british film? Is The Dark Knight?

They're co-productions so are British-American films. Lots of films today are co-productions, the UK and America work together a lot.
>>
>>85415084
>Shame their generals tend to be shite.
Meh, French generals have usually been better than the average though?

To my knowledge, Condé, Villars, Turenne, Guesclin, Napoleon and his hand-picked marshals get studied extensively. That and the current French approach to intervention abroad is trying to be mimicked by others at the moments, for their successes in not turning the tide against them while there.

Just so happened that WWII came about when being a general was more about being a friend of the president than actually being wise and visionary. Ironically, de Gaulle's tactics are said to have inspired Guderian's, so France got screwed by a man using their very own strategies.

That was sort of the point though wasn't it? Farrier was the one who was single handedly responsible for the survival of all the other main characters, along with a lot of others - and he did it by choice, he could have turned back to base at the start when his fuel gauge got shot. He could have turned back after the second engagement when Collins went down. He could have turned back when he had to switch to reserve fuel, but he kept fighting. He's the only actual hero in the film and in the end he's the only survivor that doesn't make it home.
>>
>>85408627
I got hit with some feels when I realized why Rylance, who was composed throughout the entire film, kind of choked up briefly when he saw the spitfire go down. It's cuz it probably made him think of how his own son might have died.
