Why does hollywood want to banish this film and replace with the Ed Norton remake?
This is great
>banish
how exactly?
I wish Mann would try to do another hyper-stylized psychological thriller.
>>85400213
feels like Red Dragon is the definitive of the "trilogy" so to say just because Hopkins plays the role.
Manhunter is arguable Manns best IMO
>>85400011
My favorite film. Easily
>>85400514

Well there you go
>>85400902
Beautiful Soundtrack, especially Graham's Theme
>>85400011
I would say, even though they're adaptations of the same material, that's really as far as the connection between the two films goes. They both operate in entirely different arenas.
>>85400213
What an atrocious cover.

No. Not Francis. Francis is gone. Francis is gone forever.

IN DA GADDA DA VIDA HONEY
Almost as good as Silence. Petersen and Noonan's performances are god-tier.
>Before me, you are a slug in the sun. You are privy to a great becoming, and you recognize nothing. You're an ant in the afterbirth. It is in your nature to do one thing correctly: tremble. But fear is not what you owe men. No, Lounds. You and the others... you owe me AWE.

It's better than silence you redditor pleb

Lads post some crime/detective films that are as good, I can think of two:
Memories of murder
Cure (1997)
While I love the original it was a bit, of the 80s.
They probably just wanted to get a "timeless" version down.
>>85403128
Red Dragon reeks of 00's.
>>85403128
Manhunter aged far better than Red Dragon.
Any other serial killer kino?
>>85402112
That part when he finally puts it all together and the music that goes with it. Fucking incredible
>>85403098
I'd add Zodiac to that list.
>>85400011
The shootout in this movie was pretty bad, especially for a Michael Mann film.
>>85403098
8mm is almost great
>>85404096
The way Graham tells Jack that the women has a "bloom" always gets me. He's starting to think like his prey. Also, as he puts the pieces together in the scene it's almost as if Jack shirks away from him, as if he's recognising the monster in Graham.
>>85403098
The Chaser
>>85403098
>Memories of murder
from which year?
also
Resurrection from 1999 is a good serial killer movie
why did they keep Hannibal Lecter locked up in an art museum?
>>85404675
2003
>>85403098
Just thought of some more
M
Henry portrait of a serial killer
Angst
Peeping Tom
Man Bites Dog
>>85404675
2003 I think, bong joon Ho film
>>85404677
I don't know. Why was he locked up in a haunted mansion in Silence?
>>85404919
Also, at a push
Nocturnal Animals
No Country for Oldmen
>>85403098
Angel Heart
>>85404035
Legion/The Exorcist 3
>>85404594
I like 8mm, but it supposedly got utterly castrated by the time it actually got to the cinema.
The guy who wrote the script got so pissed off about the final product that he disowned his work.
It's still insane to me to think that a movie about a guy tracking down a snuff film production ring ended up coming out as a major Hollywood production.

If you ever see Brian Cox, do not tell him you prefer his Hannibal.

>Based Mann vs Brett Ratner
No shit.
>>85407558
Why? I mean Hopkins delivers a great performance, but damn he plays him just perfectly that he just exhudes this aura of malice and danger.
Hopkins plays a memeworthy performance, and I end up liking the character. Brian Cox is behind bars and you as the audience are fucking glad for it. Hes barely in the movie for one scene and he's memorable as fuck.
One of my top three films of all time. I even have an original one sheet and the soundtrack on vinyl and listen to it all the time. I think I've watched it more than any other film, everything about it is perfect to me.
>>85407558
Why? He was better.
>>85407558
I don't know how Cox feels about his performance but as a person who has read all the novels I recognize his Lecter is better. I love Hopkins Lecter and Silence too, but it is nothing like the original work said he was.
>>85408092
Cox is better than Hopkins, creepier and more believable, Hopkins is a bit over the top.
>>85404423
No kidding. Everyone online keeps praising Manhunter for its style but the shootout is bad enough to almost ruin it. There's no way that shootout could've possibly looked good at the time either. How was the shootout in Thief so much better than than this despite being an earlier Mann film?
>>85400011
yu're right it's great
