GROSS is the money that is DIVIDED between the studio and the theatres, the studio/distributor get at best 60% of the total DOMESTIC gross, and ~25-30% of the FOREIGN gross.

So of those $251 million it has grossed domestically sofar, Sony only get (again at best) $150 million, and the $175 million in production costs doesn't cover marketing which for a tenthpole release like this is easily another $100 million.

I had always assumed the line about using his own blood was meant to imply Luthor had a certain controlling bond with the creature. I guess this confirms that intention in Luthor's motivation.

Lex's motivation was never the League. It was not his intention to have Diana there. If it was, he would've gotten leverage on her to force her into the carnage. Instead she chose to go of her own volition

I disagree about the control thing, mainly because as the Ultimate Cut was absolutely what Snyder intended as the finished product, any of the other lines are basically apocrypha. Maybe Lex did believe he'd have some control over it, but if they meant to convey that, it seems an odd line to omit.

I look at pretty much everything Lex says to Clark there at the end as him desperately trying to create a new narrative where even his total defeat is still a victory for him, because as he says himself - he doesn't know how to lose, and with Lex, perception is everything. Even if you only *believe* this was his plan, he still considers that a win. Of the three principal characters, Lex is the only one who never willingly faces truth.

Is this under performing the second series?, and the first series when adjusted for inflation?

It is apocryphal. But I think it's the reason for his blood. I think Steppenwolf influenced him to create Doomsday (because he starts in on that after accessing the Kryptonian archives) to kill Superman (and anyone else who might interfere).

Oh definitely. I hope that they're forced to consult with him because the damage during the Doomsday fight effectively crippled the database. He could be the world's least reliable source of exposition, which would be sort of awesome. He could also be consulted on a means of reviving/resurrecting Clark.
