No, seriously, where is all the 80's culture that this novel was centered around? I understand that WB wanted to rewrite certain references to be their own properties instead of blowing a huge chunk of cash on licensing. But the only obvious 80s references I saw in the trailer was the BTtF Delorean, the Blade Runner-esq cars, and the song.

Legit spoilers:The Iron Giant seems like the big-bad giant robot in the final act, based of the background. but this is total bullshit, since all the unique-item giant robots in the final act of the novel are from the 80s. And objectively Iron Giant < Mecha Gojira(who he is replacing from the novel) since Iron Giant is chaotic good, and Mecha-gojira is is just REEEEEONNNNNNK *SMASH*

>Muh book of 80's popculture is being ruined by popculture
FUCKING LOL

you never read the actual novel, did you? I mean, I don't have a boner for the 80's, but the 80's IS the core that the novel's internal culture. and if you want to claim "its a trailer for general audiences" they should have have dropped a few more references to entice nostalgiafags that aren't familiar with the novel

(from the trailer)

.. From the GAME CHANGING DIRECTOR Stephen Spielberg...

>I don't have a boner for the 80's, but the 80's IS the core that the novel's internal culture.

i was on the internet in the 80s, bitch, and it was entirely command-line driven. there were no flashy graphics. there was no cyberspace. it was like a monumental DOS adventure game.

>Calls the movie "popculture wankfest" while attempting to defend the book
The lack of self awareness on some people.

ill pass on this garbage.

the second key is hidden in a VR version of an old ass comand line game. In the novel, they specifically need to input command lines to play that game

You have 10 seconds to name a bad sci-fi movie from Spielberg.

Even if the book is garbage, he will make changes to it that will make it worth watching
