Last episode felt like "the one before shit goes down". It didn't exactly happen like that, but all the stuff at the beginning was certainly big. This episode, specifically the end felt like things were about to get sad. Anyone else feel that? David Lynch portrays the anxiety of a situation in a more intense way than any director ever as far as I've seen - the fucking scene outside the Double R is a classic example of how he just chews through discomfort like no other director ever. In addition to seeing his ex-wife run off like a dumb schoolgirl with some dangerous scumbag for a makeout in the middle of a deeply important emotional moment with their daughter THEN the gunshots THEN finding out its the kid and the kid just glares at him like he's demon possessed (and bobby may have an idea that kind of shit actually happens in twin peaks) THEN the fucking lady won't stop honking. I was actually getting really anxious that the insane amount of people honking would not be addressed and it takes way too long to happen. Then that whole scene just descends into another twenty layers of hell that take forever. KINO

The mitchum brothers and their whole shit is just a classic Lynchian subversion of classic American iconography - the Vegas gangster, surrounded by his ultra hot girlfriends at all times, their whole ridiculous attitude and aesthetic is VERY vegas. Not only does is it show how empty and stupid living that kind of life would actually be there's also another layer of total fantasy where all of the typical imagery or tropes you expect are played up so intensely that they reveal themselves to be absurd, terrifying, or hilarious. There's nothing to be taken THAT literally (literal in terms of the narrative of course) but , there's no intention to portray the way actual people live and feel in these scenes.

The credits ruined the unveiling of Richard Horne. Imagine if we didn't know who he was because of the credits, and the moment when he pulls up to Audrey's mother's house and said "Hi grandma" was the reveal. Would have been amazing, but the credits in the other episode fucked it up.

Yeah I definitely agree. Even without the Lynch pacing I think the hour-a-week structure doesn't fit the show super well. I'm glad he's getting to make it the way he wanted to but there's so much happening at once that the show can't even cover it all in every episode and it turns it into a slow drip.
