Watching Dune for the first time. What should I expect?
Plot holes
>>85366988

One ugly ass movie.
Wanting to fuck Jessica, apparently.
a beautiful movie with unique atmosphere & tone and a script and editorial that never quite got there. performances vary.
>>85366988
HEY PAUL
>>85367372
Even with Lynch's issues, why everyone is so bummed about no Jodorowsky film is beyond me. That guy's shit would have been even more out there and barely sensible.
I mean if he added in stuff like piss recycling, I'd be all for that.
>>85366988
Can we continue talking about the sex flash game here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-KESpTStok
What did he mean by this?
>>85367724
I don't see why not, the other one got deleted because of the OP, I'm sure.
The game's fun, but it needs more options for all of those Fremen women, like all sex options for each character, including Jessica and Chani, and the smuggler.
>>85367724
We should talk about how kino the live action scenes were for Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune.
>>85367879
I want to give my water to all of them.
>>85366988
Fantastic sets and an interesting albeit condensed and sometimes rushed story
expect wormsign!
>>85367953
The live-action sequences were the best things about those games.
Well, and the soundtrack.

OP here. Confused. Why does the Emporer want to kill the Duke and his son?
>>85368512
>Why does the Emporer want to kill the Duke and his son?
Because they control the spice or something
youre not gonna read the books so thats basically the best explanation for it
>>85368618
But was it not him who tasked the Duke to control the spice? Why didn't he take control of it directly?
>>85368512
The Emperor wants to kill the Duke because he fears the Duke's popularity and how it threatens his own position of power.
a fun ride
it's got a really rough start though, just hang through senpai
>>85368447
The live action scenes were mostly based on Lynch's film I think.
Pual dies in the end.
>>85367879
>can't pork your mom except for with fat fuck harkonnen and he's the one taking her vaginally
what even is the point
>>85369215
You can do it during the game, just no mommy end. You need to get the second level of the voice, use it on the fremen girls, and come back to her.
>>85368724
Because he wanted Baron Harkonnen to do his dirty work for him (hence why Harkonnen had access to the Sardaukar legions [emperor's personal shock troops]) by killing the Duke, and in return, Baron Harkonnen was promised control of Dune and it's spice once he killed and deposed Duke Leto

Well I know they made it clear that he was basically a hedonist but I thought there was some line in the original book where he was talking about how much he was disgusted by de pusi
>>85366988
Are you going to marathon it?
It's boring shit
>>85369615
You can get Chani, Chani and Irulan, Irulan, Jessica with Harkonnen, the Guild Navigator, but not Jessica alone.
Jessica and Chani would be best end.
>>85369669
ah okay. I thought you meant doing that would lock out of a mommy end when there just isnt one at all.

>>85369764
*unsheathes crysknife*
sorry Jack, but Dune is not space opera.
>>85366988
just watch the movie dumbass
It's a mess of a movie. It feels an hour longer than it actually is, and somehow there is an assembly cut or fan edit that adds like another hour of footage!
Great special effects tho. A quick way to tell if a scene is good:
>does it have that floating fat guy? Good scene
>does the scene lack Paul? Might be good scene

What a demeaning custom.
Lots to enjoy, but poorly edited. Could have been a great film if Lynch got final cut.
>>85368512
The Duke was getting too popular with the major noble houses, and he was a first cousin to the Emperor which gave him a possible claim on the throne since the Emperor had only daughters. The Emperor had to take him out for those reasons, but he had to be discrete because the Emperor isn't supposed to get involved like that and it would cause a massive shitstorm if the great houses found out the Emperor had one of them whacked.
Sexy oiled up Sting abs
Now back to this thread.
I wonder how will future kinographies depict the more unusual stuff in the Dune franchise, like the weirding way

it needs a more modern framework. that crap of "click here to go there, do shit, then click there to come back here to see if your shit worked" is from 1993 back when game mechanics were graphic extensions of the god damned Colossal Caves adventure.
>>85373172
>but he had to be discrete because the Emperor isn't supposed to get involved like that and it would cause a massive shitstorm if the great houses found out the Emperor had one of them whacked.

i thought Patrick Stewart would have been better playing Thufir Hawat, and the dude who played Hawat would have been better playing Gurney Halleck.
>>85374722
They were disguised as Harkonnen men in the book. There is even a chapter where Count Fenrig goes to Geidi Prime to tell the Baron that he'll be next if he tells the other noble houses about the Sardaukars' involvement in Leto's death.
>>85369325
Shame that only gholas have that anal scene with her.

>>85375287
Lots of lost opportunities in the game.
>>85366988
absolutely loved the movie. did not know it was based on a novel. read the novel later and i'm glad i saw the movie first because movie is not as good as the novel. novel is difficult to translate into a movie because most is internal/thoughts. when i watched the movie, i thought the bene gesseritt reverend mothers had telepathy (in that scene when reverend mother mohiam used her bene-gesseritt-trained senses to listen in to the conversation between the emperor and the guild navigator).
the remake is a better rendering of the novels.
>>85366988
A movie that is only enjoyable if you've read the book.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAS4pJmuHAM
>>85374684
What's the modern approach? Cavalcade of cutscenes?
>>85375895
the modern approach is to let the player organise their resources from one screen. all of the game mechanics in "behind the dune" could be done with a single excel spreadsheet, porn animations included.
>>85377210
Well, being able to purchase harvesters remotely along with moving any troop to any location and not having to physically go to their location would be able the only way to manage more efficiently here.
I just wanna pee in all their mouths.
>>85366988
A film meant to be such a pinnacle but ended up being kinda good (great watch still)
Watch the documentary about Jodorowsky's dune next, a great watch too

>>85375287
>Shame that only gholas have that anal scene with her.
No, if it is Leto, it is implied that Paul is the one who does it. Leto says something to the effect of, "My son and my concubine together! This is wrong!" And Jessica says afterwards, "We had to do it, Leto, I'm sorry." or something. Point is, Leto Ghola has you fuck mom's butt, but locks you out of other endings.
>>85382740
I think you misunderstood.
>>85382775
I don't think so. The dialogue options during and after seem to imply that Paul is the one who fucks her if you get the Leto ghola.
>>85383186
Yes, you're right, just checked it.
It's strange though that you can't click on a follower for commentaries, and also Jessica doesn't react to your voice anymore after bringing Leto ghola.
it's a bit shit
>>85366988
Holy shit you fags are so bad at that game.
You can literally fuck every woman, even the Navigator.
>that Chani test about Dune

>>85366988
The two miniseries were better. Not perfect, but better. The only good thing about the film was based Sting.
>>85378721
Sounds like what Brian did too.
I do think that the aesthetics for Lynch's Dune came off much better than would have Jods. And I think Lynch would probably be closer to the book too.
I'm glad we got Lynch as a result, as Jod fully admits he'd just fuck it up in the name of his LSD vision.
>>85366988
>>85386327
Fuck you, the aesthetic of that movie was perfect.
>>85378076
i think we all dodged a bullet there.
http://www.duneinfo.com/unseen/jodorowskys-dune-uncovered/16
"Entering the Palace Rabban orders every servant killed, Rabban himself slaughtering children with glee.
Finally Rabban orders ever Harkonnen soldier into the hall, and once it is full they are commanded to defecate!
"The defecating scene is mentioned by the Jodorowsky's Dune documentary director Frank Pavich in an interview on Indiewire
"'In order to insult Duke Leto, David Carradine, Rabban the Beast gets his army, the Algerian army, to pull down their pants in front of the palace and shit. So there's going to be a scene of 2,000 extras defecating at once. So here's Charlotte Rampling, she agrees to meet with Jodo, she gets the script, she reads the script, and she says, "I can't be in a movie where there's 2,000 extras defecating on screen!" '"
it's not that jodo just has a shitting fetish, he's got one of those exhibitionist kinks where he can only get off it he's making OTHER PEOPLE watch people shitting.
boy's got problem.s
This movie feels like an hour is missing between that fight in a cave and him storming the castle. We just get few scenes to summarise what happened and that's it. It's so weird, because the movie up to that point was painfully slow. Even in fanedits that restore some of the missing footage, that part stays exactly the same.
>>85383561
pretty sure there hasn't been a female navigator since Norma Cenva.
>>85389184
that's not nearly enough
>>85367439
This. Anyone who has seen El Topo sober knows Jodo is an autistic hack.
easily Lynch's worst movie
it's got a great cast and atmosphere, but you can really see how badly the studio mangled it
Dune can only be properly adapted with a multi season series, like GoT.
the SyFy miniseries was a bit more faithful.
though you realize most of the content is dry dialog or exposition on religion, politics, and economics.
what's the best cut to watch?
>>85367879
>The game's fun, but it needs more options for all of those Fremen women, like all sex options for each character, including Jessica and Chani, and the smuggler.
Sex options are fine, but I legitimately enjoyed playing through it simply as a Dune game. Buying harvesters, allocating fremen tribes, planning the attack on arakeen. I'm probably just nostalgic for the old Westwood and Cryo games, but honestly I just want more of those mechanics. Maybe some variation in the music too.
>>85390694
People seem to like that fanedit with redux in title. It's probably this or theatrical.
>>85369764
*folds space behind you*
>>85390694
Spicediver fan edit. Accept nothing less.
>>85387304
>I do think that the aesthetics for Lynch's Dune came off much better than would have Jods.
Jodo wanted HR Giger to design the film. Dune by Giger would have been awesome af.
>>85372489
Basically, yes.
To an insane degree even.
The metaphor of a religion engineered to serve as an army fits the islamic faith too well.
>>85386327
>You'll never see Sting play Constantine.
Fookin' hell, mate.
>>85366988
I recently finally watched the whole damn thing. I fell asleep yet again and watched the rest the next day. I had never made it through the whole movie before but I felt it was now time that I caught all the references. And now, years if not decades after hearing these references, I was finally able to understand them.
>>85390501
>It's so weird, because the movie up to that point was painfully slow.
I agree, except that the entire movie is painfully slow. I don't know if a re-edit would have made it better, but for so many weird and wacky ideas it is such a dry and dull movie. People staring at each other while inner monologues are running. Scheming and scheming with no real payoff.
>>85390887
The problem with the fan edit, if that is the version I saw (it's been a long time) is that it is still boring and opens with 10 minutes of expository narration over still images. What a way to kill your interest.
>>85390629
>though you realize most of the content is dry dialog or exposition on religion, politics, and economics.
You can always add some current hot topics, like Fremens being oppressed Space Muslims, baron harkonnen being a descendant of Trump.
>>85366988
I thought it was weird writing to make characters monologue before/after scenes to provide additional context. Why couldn't they just express those words in conversation somehow? It takes away from the cinematic experience.better than Spaceballs though
>>85390455
it would have been defacatakino pleb

>>85366988
expect some of the worst cgi you have seen so far.
the story, characters and acting are all somewhat decent, even the music. but the cgi man, fuck - i mean this is syfy channel tier in a big budget movie. maybe even worse than syfy.
>>85394404
Was their CGI in Dune? That movie came out in like 85. Bleeding edge computer graphics in 1985 were like... Super Mario 2.
>>85392167
>Spaceballs <=> Dune
Well that's an apples-to-apples comparison, if ever I heard one.
>>85394520
Maybe he's thinking of the "forcefields" that Paul and Gurney had while sparring in the beginning. Those are in fact "practical," IIRC (some type of filter over the film I think) but they look like ass, in a charming sort of way.
Some of the composite shots in the movie are really bad, too. Sometimes it looks like cardboard cutouts are floating across the screen.
>>85375344
Its not even close to being finished though. WEGs are like crack in that theyre fucking terrible yet you always want more.
>>85394691
Oh gotcha. Yeah, those forcefields might have been painted on to the frame, in the same way as star wars lasers. The bad blue-screen I do remember... it's pretty rough. There really wasn't ever very good blue-screen, though, was there? I feel like that always looked like ass, even in very high-budget movies.
>>85366988
aint this the faggot in sex and the scity? also dont watch dune it's the worst fucking film ever made, ever
>>85383757

>>85394520
exactly that stuff yeah. i mean, watch the space / landing shots from when they first arrive on arrakis. fucking worse special effects than star wars had in '77. the stop-motion stuff is pretty damn bad too, not just the cgi.
>>85372489
I'm pretty sure most of the known universe in Dune follows some variation of Space Islam or the other
>>85366988
>What should I expect?
Pain
>>85395866
ive seen over 3000 films mate so not that sheltered, and they even include foreign because im well cultured so to even presume that means your a fucking inept piece of shit
>>85394815
But it's a finished game.
>>85396303
3000 movies and you think THIS is the worst movie ever made? I mean... yeah, it's bad. It's pretty bad. It's Lynch doing everything that Lynch does wrong and nothing that Lynch does right, in one film. But "worst ever"? It doesn't even rate. It's not even on the Worst 20. I've seen some things, man, you don't wanna know. Things That Cannot Be Unseen.
Dune is still, to this very day, the VERY boldest attempt at a blockbuster Hollywood's ever seen, it's a masterpiece, the visuals are probably the best ever and that divine score... g.o.a.t.
