Why are films so shit at depicting the Internet and its culture?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

BBS the Documentary was pretty good, though that was a documentary about BBSes.

Because the real internet culture died out years ago. It's been homogenized and sterilized to where it basically has no personality anymore. Normies ruined the internet and made it less of a wild west and more like a shopping mall with the same 20 or so stores everyone goes to rather than just a wide open space.

Walled gardens are now the norm because people can't handle being given a choice.

looks autistic whatever this is

This is discussed in-depth in BBS the Documentary, though it's a documentary about BBSes and not the Internet
>>

No. This is actually being made. NOOOOOOO

Well, BBSes are still technically the internet. The internet is just the method of which we send and receive information. BBSes and the WWW are the actual protocols on top of the internet. The internet existed well before BBSes and the WWW.

BBSes can run on Internet and use Internet but are orthogonal to Internet. This is discussed in BBS the Documentary, a fantastic documentary series which everyone should view. There's an entire episode about BBSes and TCP and IP and they even talk about UDP, Usenet, IRC, and toll-free sex lines.

>the real internet culture

How would you write a movie about the internet then?
>>
>>85366462
A documentary movie? Also are we talking the internet or BBSes?

I dunno but it's an interesting cinematic void so there's a lot of potential for experimentation, I think you could do stuff with the audio to reflect the rapid fire info barrage you get on the internet,
the speed at which the Internet is able to make quasi-conspiratorial links and patterns within information could be presented visually, something similar to the hacking scenes in The Social Network. There's also the novelty of having online chat rooms set in actual physical rooms, although that comes off as a little too on the nose.

Durarara did a good job of the good and bad points of the net.
