Boyle hated Sherilyn Flynn and was jealous of her character's popularity plus the relationship that was developing between Audrey and Cooper, so she started dragging her ass all over production and got Kyle to go to bat for her against the writers. This is why Annie and the Billy Zane character were created and why Audrey and Cooper barely have any further interactions with each other after he rescues her.

Every time Kyle is asked about it, he tries to save face by saying that he thought Audrey/Cooper was inappropriate because of the age difference and that was his reasoning for refusing it, but Sherilyn Flynn and Mark Frost have both said that the real reason was because his girlfriend pretty much browbeated him into it.

The original first seasons were oozing of atmosphere, the dialogue was quirky but enthralling and engaging, the characters were memorable and likeable. It was all so comfy, like a good cup of joe.

This? This looks cheap and feels cheap. No charm of the original, dialogues are garbage, new characters are boring, jumping around all over the map geographically. You just do not care after a while. Lynch wanted to make something completely different from Twin Peaks when he had decided to continue the show, but he knew he couldn't go 100% as the fans would go batshit crazy. So he throws fans the bone in the form of original characters, double r diner, twin peaks pd etc. And that stuff is still charming. Other things feel so sterile and just plain bad.

I'm not sure I understand the CGI stuff. Lynch has some great shots, the costuming is always excellent, and he clearly pays really fabulous attention to detail. But it seems like whenever special effects are done (especially CGI stuff in backgrounds or like in that scene with Dougie turning into gold) it always looks kind of corny and obviously fake. Normally I'd assume it's a choice to be deliberately jarring and offputting, but 1. he also manages that fine by making choices with ambiance and characterization that don't look so clumsy, and 2, now that I think of it I can't actually find an example of a special effect that IS pulled off nicely. So it's not like some effects are designed to "look shittier" than others. Stuff like the golden pipes on the ceiling in episode 8 always look weird.

Anyone have any insight into the reasoning here, or is it just a taste thing?
