They spend PLENTY of money on it, they just rush everything. They rush through principal photography, so they're not actually planning their shots/angles well for the effects to look good, they just assume "we'll do everything in post." And then they rush through post-production, too.

You can't make that stuff look good just by throwing more money at it. You need skilled artists/animators, and they need TIME to do quality work.

But it doesn't matter. They realized a long time ago that their audience doesn't give a fuck about quality craftsmanship. That's why they stopped working with real directors too - they're too demanding, and the audience doesn't care either way.
