>Oh shit they're bringing Stargate back? Guess it was about time, why haven't I seen threads about this
There's been several long-running threads about this.

Regardless - don't get excited. It's not a real show. It's a web series with ten minute episodes, produced by MGM's "digital platforms" division (not even their TV division), written and directed by literal nobodies with little to no experience, with no one from the previous series involved at any level.

Basically, it's gonna be a shoestring budget piece of crap primarily serving as promotion for their streaming service. The thing that makes it so insulting is they were hyping it up as the future of Stargate.

that's not a good reason, that's a shitty excuse for the writers to abandon the concept (different constellations on every planet) that was established by the movie and CONFIRMED by the SG-1 pilot but then they said fuck it, ancients did everything, Earth is finally the center of the universe again lol

I admit that it's a nuisance, but they should've thought of that before they started filming and then just changing their mind along the way

>in the movie abydos was in a different galaxy, so of course it wouldn't have the same symbols

it wouldn't have the same symbols no matter where it was unless it was extremely close to earth

>whut, how?

when Daniel shows Jack and the others the hall with the map of all the gate addresses on Abydos, he explains that he's been able to recognize the symbols in the nightsky of Abydos, thus confirming what the movie had established, namely that the gate on every planet has unique symbols based on what the constellations look like from there (what else would be the point of using specific star constellations to begin with, if it has nothing to do with the place you're dialing from?)
>>
>>85325141
The only way I can think of that would involve gate travel and have some story that doesn't break continuity as to why she didn't tell anyone other than the lazy writing of "her memory was wiped." Is if it involves Mitchel when he traveled to 1929 at the end of Continuum. In fact if he doesn't show up in this during that time, it would be still breaking continuity

Man I know what you mean, it's really a crap-shoot as to whether it will be just just or be so shit it puts the final nail in the series.
This whole thing stink of someone trying to make a quick buck for the 20th, with the smallest amount of effort.
Seriously if they wanted to go with the strong woman trope, we already have Carter, who is a character that has had years of screen time developing the character from a airforce captain who was socially awkward and didn't have a life, to bad ass col in charge of her own ship who still can't get a boyfriend. So, I'm with you on the criticism of her as a choice as a writer. However the "one of those other bad things" pic, which seems to imply that she's a furry, is off the mark. That's a picture that was pretty obviously taken at a music festival. It's been a while since I did the festival circuit but those animal ear sweatshirts (and hoods with ears) were quite popular with normie girls at shows/festivals a few years back, especially electronic shit. I don't know if she's a furry or not, but that pic isn't the proof you're looking for.

Unless we want to put people who go to music festivals on the "bad things" list.

>I guess its pretty hard to be non-marvel spacey SCI-FI show

Well, those are films. There's The Expanse and (sort of) The 100 that are pretty popular, even though they're kind of schlocky and low-budget, it's not an overcrowded market. Just waiting for HBO to throw big money at something grand, perhaps SpaceX/Mars Colonization etc will spark an increased interest in space among normies and we'll see a slew of science fiction media just like during the Cold War space race

yeah no, I'm not paying a subscription service for a single web series and not even a promise for more. Maybe is MGM had all their content available to stream, but this seems to be for only new stargate content. To pay a monthly fee for this and only this is pure crazy and so laughable that they are trying this way to make money. I don't care if brad wright wrote the script and tapping directed it, you'll end up paying triple of what the end disc will be when that eventually sells, because they got to slowly roll out the episodes in order to keep people subscribed when all you have is a single show.

the movie and the tv show are two different companies/writers. its actually two different canons.
the movie was totally different to anything that was out at the time. characters stayed dark. it didn't have a happy ended. it was believable sci fi. stargate (the movie)was a masterpiece.
stargate the tv show has two different tracks. it started on network tv. the network version (to me) was more dark and dangerous. when it moved to basic cable it became the sam carter show but it still kept my interest but I wouldn't get mad if I missed an episode. the series was complicated at first. then it started to lower itself to about middle school level. example ;the ori was scary then they pulled back. the spin-offs were startrek/land of the lost based. that's why they didn't last that long. they were for kids. another thing that killed it was the casting if you noticed they went from americans to Canadians and moved production to Canada and it really shows. everything became cheaper. at the end the only real substance was the enemies cause those were americans. **I don't fault them for replacing mcgayver(sp) but they should've gotten rid of carter as well.

True the movie and tv show were created by different people, the movie is obviously canon in the series (despite a few inconsistancies).
>the movie was totally different to anything that was out at the time. characters stayed dark. it didn't have a happy ended.
It did have a happy ending. It sure as hell wasn't "dark". I don't know what you're on about.
>it was believable sci fi. stargate (the movie)was a masterpiece.
kek
>stargate the tv show has two different tracks. it started on network tv. the network version (to me) was more dark and dangerous. when it moved to basic cable it became the sam carter show but it still kept my interest but I wouldn't get mad if I missed an episode.
It was never on network TV. It started on premium cable (Showtime) then moved to basic cable (SciFi/SyFy). And the show being more "dark and dangerous" in its early years is 100% in your head. If anything, it got darker in later years, relatively speaking, although it was never really a "dark" type of show at all.
>the series was complicated at first. then it started to lower itself to about middle school level. example ;the ori was scary then they pulled back.
Did you watch the series out of order or something? The Ori didn't even appear until the last two season, and once they had been introduced they sure as hell didn't "pull back".
>the spin-offs were startrek/land of the lost based. that's why they didn't last that long. they were for kids.
Stargate was always "family friendly" scifi. The spinoffs certainly not more so than SG-1. It could be argued that SGU, at least, was less so than the first two shows.
>another thing that killed it was the casting if you noticed they went from americans to Canadians and moved production to Canada and it really shows.
Bullshit. The TV show was made in Canada right from the beginning.

>Different anon here, Stargate had some gratuitous nudity when it was on Showtime.
That happened exactly once - in the pilot - and only because Showtime execs insisted there be nudity, against the creator's wishes.

It's like watching Polish porn where the video is being filmed at the same time as people are taking photographs

It's the timeline getting reset by the Ancient device. Little more than a stylized scene transition that works within the confines of the episode.

>ywn live in the reality where Kurt Russell greets Bill Pullman as soon as he gets off the plane in Independence Day revealing that this is actually the middle movie in the Stargate trilogy, totally unannounced in the trailers and promotion, that they have a few ships, they've been freeing human civilizations across the galaxy, and the cavalry is coming to help blow these cocksucking system lords right outta the sky to kingdom come, you live in the best possible timeline, hallelujah
at least i have these
>>
>>85351011
it's pretty clear from the Stargate novels written by Bill McCay, based on Emmerich's and Devlin's notes for the sequels (Hathor launches a massive invasion on Earth in retaliation for Ra's death) that Independence Day was originally meant to be a Stargate sequel

now try to imagine ID4 but with pyramid ships instead of saucers and Horus guards massacering the humans

This line of think is retarded. This production and what people really want are two separate things. Why would execs take people watching this and think "hey let's make the other thing!" They'll just make more Origins shit.
>>
>>85351425
Imagine ID4 2 with the return of the Goa'uld.

Truly the worst timeline.
>>
>>85347172
I think they toned it down because the show had sort of found an audience with middle class red state americans and the showrunners realized their best chance to make the show successful was to actively court this demographic by making it family-friendly and portraying the military in a positive light.
