I was a bit on and off about RLM, but the Martin review made me like them again. The whole segment was a more genuine look back at Romero than any of the posers that tried to act sad after his death (and spammed a few million lazy zombie jokes).

Can't even be mad at Jahns at a certain point. He knows who he is, who he is reviewing movies for, and is pretty unapologetic about it. All the more power to him.

Stuckmann is an idiot who showed with that dumbass photo of him and his black friends that he can barely understand the messages/themes of films that he reviews. That kind of behaviour was exactly what Get Out was criticizing, and how that flew right over his head I have no idea.

There are many signs that can prove that an internet reviewer is shitty, to name some:

1) Has one or more reaction videos
2) Talks more about references, homages and easter eggs rather than directing, character development or story
3) His point of view does not differ from the view of all other reviewers. If so, more than likely he is trying to side with the most popular opinion or he can only break down the movie on a surface level and cannot give you insight on a important part that you might have missed.
4) His vocabulary contains many well-known buzzwords

In general, popular reviewers try to side with their audience rather than deconstruct the movie for what it is.

A good example is Thor Ragnarok. What you might hear from a copycat reviewer is that that they like how Thor is taking a "new" direction. However it's not taking a new direction, the world and feel of the movie is a straight up copy of Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think this is a good example that most people neglect about the new movie and you might not hear from the most popular reviewers, because as I said they care more about siding with the popular opinion rather than reviewing the movie for what it really is.

On the other hand, I do not think true contrarians are good reviewers either, because they try too hard not to side with the popular opinion. However you can still take something from them because they'll try so hard to differ that they might actually give you some new piece of information or new insight that you didn't hear from a popular reviewer.
