Each movie was better than the last.

I came out pleased with War mainly because it was a satisfying conclusion to Caesar's character arc.

Most people that hated War seemed to went in expecting a 2 hour of Apes shooting guns. While I can understand their frustrations given the marketing, if they followed the films at all, they would have known that wasn't going to be the case, and they sure as hell weren't going to be disappointed.

Honestly, I feel this is the same issue mad max faces.
Most people know Max from road warrior onward, and very few even know MM exists. Ive met tons of people who straight up believe road warrior is MM1. Upon being shown MM1, they genuinely hate it because its not post apoc.

Setting expectations is a huge part of films now and can seriously sour a great film
