I know this is a troll thread, but to answer honestly: a big reason why it has so much resonance is because a lot of the scenes have very vivid, contrasting coloration. Like the scene in the dark jungle. Or where simba talks to his father in the clouds. The very vivid bright/dark colors make it memorable

The music was really catchy. It was a small scale story that didn't try to cram in a lot of locations.

I don't know if I'd say it's the "best", but it's easily the most popular for those reasons. In fact, those reasons become evident in later successful Disney movies too, like Frozen and Moana.
