I just rewatched this after so many years, it was amazing
It certainly an horror movie with little bits of comedic parts, unlike the forth movie that's just a full blown parody. And knowing who the killers are made it so much better, for example the scene where Billy and Shaggy are both talking to Jamie Kennedy is creepy as fuck, gave me goosebumps
Another interesting part is when Jamie Kennedy is watching Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis and he keeps saying "Jamie look behind you" while Ghostface is literally behind him, was that an intentional meta moment? Was Jamie Kennedy a known comedian back then?

Scream is a masterpiece. Randy Meeks is literally our guy. Who in the actual fuck brings Hellraiser to a normie party? Not only that, but he was a virgin.
Anyway, I disagree on the 4th one. I thought it was good. It matches up to the sequel, imo. It's 3 that really sucks.

Unless you also count the last part with Shaggy and Billy going full crazy as funny, I think it's both, funny and unsettling

It was a clever concept to deconstruct slasher films the way Scream did. Critics seemed to debate the concept endlessly when the film came out. I love meta-nonsense like that, even if it doesn't work it's way more ambitious and interesting than 99% of the horror films made since. I could use a torture porn deconstruction now.
