Genre fiction writers are shit. Graphic says GRRM, a genre fiction writer, is shit. Then you say "this is comparing shit authors to good authors" and that somehow makes GRRM not shit? Unless you're saying GRRM, within the realm of other shit writers, is good? In which case, he'd still be shit, only not so when compared to his contemporaries. And that's still assuming that that is true, there are plenty of fantasy writers that are miles better than GRRM. Read Gene Wolfe.

A lot of people enjoy genre fiction, anon. Ultimately, it's subjective. For one, I think F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of the worst writers I've ever had the misfortune of reading. He's all fluff, no soul. Every line of his reads like "LOOK AT ME, I'M WRITING! LOOK AT ME GO!"
