You can't open two big budget movies on the same weekend, it just doesn't work. One is invariably going to get creamed, and even the one that comes out on top is going to under perform compared to other openings.

55 million for the most hyped director currently active when the studio could've earned double that by hiring some dude had some independent film succeed last year and have him make a movie about the silver surfer or whatever
>>
>>85262468
Well there are is almost no showings for Valerian in my area. Each theater has 4 showings for it each day while Dunkirk each has 12+ showings. Compared against that, I can only think that Valerian is doing well for how hard theaters are forcing you to not see the it vs Dunkirk.
>>
>>85263020
Normally I'd agree with this, but I saw it today and it was THAT bad.
The acting was terrible and it had zero pacing.
>>
>>85262468
Good! Fuck that video game cgi trash with those two subhuman dykes. It deserves to eat shit and die just like Luc Besson that overrated shit breather.
>>

Original shit is just as shit as rehash shit.
>>
>>85263190
It hasn't even opened in Europe yet - you know the continent that actually gives a shit about WW II unlike you Amerifatskis who just came in two weeks before it was all over.
>>
>>85263020

Wtf are you talking about ?? Valerian is based on a comic book from France. It's worse than cape shit it's euro-capeshit
>>
>>85262468
Good. Valerian is a CGI mess with a fashion model and the autistic villain from amazing spiderman as the lead roles
It's like if Melania Trump and Jesse Eisenberg got their own movie

I will go see Dunkirk, hopefully it's comfy warkino
>>
>>85263422
Eurocucks would all be speaking German had America not intervened and bombed the fuck out of them, and the world would be a much better place.

America bombed fuckall in Germany. It was the Brits that did the bombing and the Russkies zerg rushed them with first infantry 150 battalions of mongolian rape dogs, personally handpicked by Stalin himself on land.
You are confusing them with the Japs. Amerifatskis only helped with logistics in Europe.

Good. Quality movies should fail and western society should collapse under the weight of the degeneracy.
>>
>>85264100

Shouldn't be an industry, should be an art form. Van Gogh couldn't sell shit, he determined the future of his art form though.
>>
>>85264360

I mean I agree with what you're saying, but the reality of it is a painting is cheaper to create than a movie, so the industry side of it is pretty important.

She didn't sleep her way to her job, her family bought it for her. They own GQ/Vogue/Vanity Fair, have influence on the Daily Mail, and just lots of connections in general, they basically manufactured her entire career.
>>
Who didn't see this coming. Everyone knew it would bomb the second it was announced.

It's not Disney, it's not capeshit, it's not nostalgic. Audiences won't accept it
>>
>>85264360
Film has no option other than being an industry, because of what producing a movie entails. It's a shame, because it means there's higher stakes and therefore, less risks, but it's true.
That's why literature will always be the freest form of art.

Well, this is kind of expected.
Just because it is original and has a large budget doesn't mean it will be a good movie to watch in theaters. Sure, it will be a glamours TECH DEMO to see how good CGI has come, but it probably is boring as fuck to watch.

Also, they could've just used the money and put more money into the plot instead of cgi.

Valerian is hot garbage. Some of the creature designs are cool, but since it all CGI it makes it less cool as it not like "How in the fuck did they make that work."

Just came back from Valerian.
Pure Kino imo.
It's a movie that many sci-fi genres will borrow from for years.

> Dunkirk
I've seen enough war movies for a lifetime but I guess, given the time and nature of things, the general populous enjoys yet another installment.

Valerian was nice and comfy. Theatre wasn't packed. Laid back in nice leather recliners. Aired in the theatres high end room but was regular priced. Really enjoyed the experience as did other comfy patrons.
>>

The comics are original. Making a movie about them in 2017 isn't at all.

Most i saw on /tv/ were anons unenthusiastically hoping it did well as it seemed work had gone into it. However no one that i saw thought it looked or was expected to be a blockbuster.

So I'm genuinely perplexed as to who you're laughing at here.

ehhh, she's very much a case of "What I want, Daddy always gets for me". Her entire family is rich as fuck and honestly, I get she's "model attractive" but without her connections, she'd have gotten nowhere.

She's also a pretty mediocre actress yet consistently gets big parts like Suicide Squad and this, which is usually because she used to have a pretty big "quirky pretty girl" following from 16-25 year old women.
>>
This is dialogue from the film:

>"I'm a soldier, you know I play by the rules"

Some of the visuals are ok but who cares since literally nothing about this movie is engaging. Shit writing and especially shitty dialog. I just wanted to two leads to fucking die. the idea that the nuclear bombings of japan saved millions of lives in a inevitable invasion is propaganda created by the Truman administration.
Japan was on the cusp of surrendering before the bombs dropped and the majority of our generals in the pacific knew this. Very very little of them thought it was appropriate to drop the nuke however President Truman decided that we needed to show the Soviets that we aren't fucking around. He also foolishly thought that we'd have a nuclear monopoly in the aftermath but we all know how that turned out.
>>
>>85296785

>Fuck off with your piss poor education, the high end for the atomic bomb deaths is 226k for both bombings, and is most likely LESS.
Oh yeah, my bad, I forgot that nukes don't cause insane amounts of radiation that killed a ton of people months/years after the bombs were dropped.
>>
>>85263351
What did this movie do to you?
>>
>>85297839
>>85297839
If you where educated, you would know that they do not cause insane amounts of radiation unless they are ground burst explosions.

> About 80% of the total amount of residual radiation was released within 24 hours of the bombing. One study found that a person standing at the hypocenter 24 hours after the bombing would have received only one thousandth the dose of residual radiation that would have been received by a person who was there right after the bomb exploded. One week later, the dose would be only one millionth the original dose.

So you know, get educated before you spout off nonsense.
>>
Haven't seen it, but is anyone really surprised?

No one but turbonerds knows the comics, so it has no nostalgic value. It isn't tied to any big franchises and going by the trailers, doesn't offer anything audiences haven't already seen.

Watch some behind the scenes stuff man, seems like an absolute nightmare. That's why there's overuse of cgi, inconsistent tone and just much lower quality in every aspect than LOTR. Idk whose idea the 3-movie thing was but I'd guess it was either something the moneymen pushed for or Jackson himself milking the project for money out of spite.
